The BMW Vision Driving Experience is not your usual concept car

This camouflaged concept car may look like the Neue Klasse concept that BMW released a few years back, and while it is true that a new 3-Series is on the horizon, the Vision Driving Experience is not a preview of the latest car to come out, but rather, a rolling test lab for the automaker’s next generation of drivetrain management tech called the Heart of Joy.

Every new fully electric Neue Klasse model will be equipped with the Heart of Joy system, which, according to BMW, manages to control the drivetrain, brakes, charging, energy recovery, and steering ten times faster than previous systems. In contrast, current vehicle control systems have different control algorithms for functions such as the brakes and driving.

For the Heart of Joy? It manages to control everything with minimal delays and latencies as high as milliseconds.
The system improves handling, steering precision, stability, efficiency (by up to 25%), and smooth braking whether under regeneration, adaptive cruise control, stopping and starting manually, or even when engaging the parking brake.

Interestingly enough, this rolling test lab has a few highlights to showcase how all the Heart of Joy works in real life, such as how the wheels would light up and change color depending on what’s happening (acceleration, energy recovery, and braking with mechanical brakes), and that it has an absurd torque figure of 18,000 Nm. BMW’s reason? If the system can handle this much torque, it should be very reliable in day-to-day usage.
Fun fact, this car will be visiting our side of the world as it will make its debut at Auto Shanghai 2025.
