The BYD Seal is more affordable now, starting at Php 1.998M
When BYD Cars Philippines launched its electric sports sedan, the Seal, last year, it offered a lot for its asking price of PHP 2,548,000, such as an incredible 3.8-second zero-to-100 km/h sprint time, a combined power figure of 529 horsepower and 670 Nm from two electric motors (front and back), and up to 580 km of range from a single charge thanks to an 82.6kWh battery.
But for those who want the Seal’s good looks and impressive interior, there is now a newer and more affordable variant called the Seal Advanced, which costs PHP 1,998,000.
What tradeoffs do you get? First, the battery is smaller (61.4kWh) and you lose the front electric motors, bringing the power output down to 203 horsepower and 310 Nm of torque. The range takes a slight hit at up to 510 km, and so does the acceleration– it now hits the century mark after 7.5 seconds.
To bring the price down, the Intelligent Torque Adaptation Control system and Frequency Selective Damping Shock Absorbers were removed. It now wears 18-inch wheels, uses a manual tailgate, loses the heads-up display, rear-seat reminders, ambient lighting, ventilated and heated front seats, two speakers (now 10 instead of 12), and the rear privacy glass.
Other than that, a lot of the other aspects of the higher-end Seal (now called Seal Performance) were retained, including the comprehensive DiPilot ADAS suite.
This surely makes the electric sports sedan more attractive to buyers. Would you get the Advanced over the Performance as a daily driver?
