The BYD Shark 6 DMO launches in PH on March 7

The BYD Shark 6 DMO is launching in the country very soon.

The much-awaited launch of the BYD Shark 6 is upon us. The Chinese automaker has announced on its social media pages that their new plug-in hybrid electric pickup truck will be held on March 7 (Friday).

The first of its kind to be available in our market, the BYD Shark 6 has been spotted driving around Metro Manila probably as a teaser campaign. BYD Cars Philippines has also previously announced that reservations have already been opened and that the first batch of units have already arrived in the country.

We recently spotted the BYD Shark 6 DMO in the city.

Unlike most midsize pickup trucks, it does not get a turbodiesel engine under the hood.

Based on other markets where it is already available, the Shark 6 is powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine paired to dual electric motors and a BYD Blade (LFP) battery. In total, it produces a combined output of 436 horsepower and 650 Nm of torque which easily beats-out its potential rivals.

Driving range is about 100 km on pure electric power alone, and around 800 km on a full tank of gas.

As of this writing, there is still no full-hybrid pickup truck available in the Philippines. The BYD Shark’s most direct rival, the Changan Hunter EREV, was previewed at last year’s Philippine International Motor Show but with no news yet on its launch.

Again, the BYD Shark 6 DMO launches on March 7. You can also experience it yourself on an off-road track on March 8 and 9 at the Aseana City Open Grounds (across Ayala Malls Manila Bay) from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM.

Are you excited for the arrival of the BYD Shark 6 DMO? We sure are. Watch this space for more updates as we get closer to the launch.
