The Kia EV5 could get two variants once launched in PH

In recent years, Kia Philippines has continued to strengthen its electrified lineup in our market with the addition of its flagship EV9 in 2024, and turbo-hybrid Sorento and Carnival last year.
And there’s more to come as the EV5 was also previewed at last year’s Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit (PEVS). Set to become their most affordable battery electric vehicle (BEV) offering in our market once it’s launched, some new bits of information have popped up online.
The first? It might come in two variants, GL and GLS, as seen on the Department of Energy’s List of Recognized EVs. It’s good to note that its recognition includes an attached spec sheet of the Australian market EV5, but provided by ACMobility, the official distributor of the Korean automaker in the country.
What we do know about these two is that the GL will come with a 64.2kWh battery while the GLS will have an 88.10kWh battery. Based on the Australian market EV5, the former will be able to drive up to 400km on a single charge, and the latter up to 555km. Both will also share the same front-mounted single electric motor that produces 218 horsepower.
Other information about the Philippine-spec EV5 is not yet available but we do have our guesses which you can read about right here. A launch date has also not been officially announced but we can expect that to happen in the coming months.
