The Mazda6 lives on as a pure electric midsize sedan
Let’s face it, midsize sedans are being forgotten thanks to the rise in popularity of crossovers. Mazda however is still banking on the segment, albeit in a different manner.
Remember the Mazda EZ-6? The all-electric midsize sedan revealed at the 2024 Beijing Auto Show is going global as the direct replacement of the Mazda6. Its name? The Mazda6e.
And as you probably already know, this is developed in collaboration with Changan Automobile, a long-time partner of Mazda in the Chinese market. Despite that, the 6e is undoubtedly Mazda.
Starting with styling, the Mazda6e still wears the brand’s signature Kodo design language which is dubbed as “Authentic Modern” this time around. It features a wide front grille and a sleek set of headlights.
Step inside and you’ll be welcomed by a sleek cabin which Mazda says is designed with their signature craftsmanship, while featuring Changan’s smart-cabin technologies such as the large infotainment screen in the center.
Powertrain-wise, the Mazda 6e’s motor produces 258 horsepower and 320 Nm of torque, paired to a 68.8kWh battery that allows it to drive up to 479 km on a single charge. This goes from 0 to 100 kph in 7.6 seconds.
For those who want more driving range, there’s a 244 horsepower option paired to an 80kWh battery. This can drive up to 552 km and goes from 0 to 100 kph in an ever-so-slightly slower 7.8 seconds.
The Mazda 6e will begin sales in Europe starting mid-2025. Do you think Mazda Philippines should bring it to our market as well?
