The latest in Philippine motoring.

The short wheelbase Toyota Tamaraw is now available in PH showrooms with a Php 757K starting price

Toyota Motor Philippines has announced the Tamaraw SWB’s availability.

It’s safe to say that the return of the all-new Toyota Tamaraw was the biggest and most-anticipated automotive launch of 2024 here in the Philippines.

With its iconic and legendary status, everyone surely got hooked. Now a few months after, Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has kept its promise and has formally made available the more affordable short wheelbase (SWB) variants of the well-loved nameplate. At its launch last year, only the long wheelbase (LWB) variants were available.

As such, the entire Toyota Tamaraw lineup now looks as follows:

  • Tamaraw 2.0 Gas M/T Dropside SWB – Php 757,000 (NEW)
  • Tamaraw 2.0 Gas M/T Aluminum SWB – Php 808,000 (NEW)
  • Tamaraw 2.0 Gas M/T SWB – Php 1,010,000 (NEW)
  • Tamaraw 2.4 Dsl M/T Dropside LWB – Php 937,000
  • Tamaraw 2.4 Dsl M/T Aluminum Cargo LWB – Php 1,041,000
  • Tamaraw 2.4 Dsl M/T FX M/T LWB – Php 1,142,000
  • Tamaraw 2.4 Dsl A/T GL Dropside LWB – Php 1,075,000
An iconic name for sure.

Size-wise, the SWB version is obviously shorter than the LWB with lengths ranging from 4,795 to 4,970 mm compared to the LWB version’s length of 5,305 mm. Width and height are the same at 1,795 mm and 1,711 to 2,100 mm, respectively. Payload capacity will still depend on the chosen configuration.

On the mechanical side, all SWB variants are exclusively powered by a gasoline engine. That’s a 2.0-liter 1TR-FE Inline 4-cylinder dual VVT-i engine that produces 139 horsepower and 183 Nm of torque, mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. No automatic version is available unlike the LWB.

SWB variants can only be had with a manual transmission.

Features and specifications are the same as the non-GL Tamaraw LWB variants. This includes multi-reflector halogen headlights, 14-inch steel wheels, a blacked-out front grille and Toyota badge, a 2DIN audio head unit, PVC seats, and manual airconditioning.

Features remain the same as most variants.

With the availability of more variants, Toyota Motor Philippines is definitely going to be reaching more customers with their iconic nameplate. Would you go for this gasoline-powered short wheelbase version, or the turbodiesel-powered long wheelbase version?
