Volkswagen Philippines has been teasing its upcoming model, the T-Cross for some months now. Today, at a virtual media round-table, they announced more information such as specifications and even pricing for the subcompact crossover SUV.

Slotting below the recently discontinued first generation Tiguan, the upcoming launch of the T-Cross will be Volkswagen Philippines’ first introduction of a new model nameplate ever since the lineup was revamped in 2018. It is also the company’s first global model to be introduced in the market since then.

VW has previously announced a couple of things to expect on the new model and have announced pretty much everything you’ll need to know. First the variants, the Volkswagen T-Cross will come in two variants: 1.5 MPI S and 1.5 MPI SE. As for the colors, the T-Cross will come in five different color choices. These are Tribu Yellow, Syringa Violet, Romance Red, Polar White, and Chinchilla Gray. In the SE variant, the interior trim is painted based on the exterior color.

Standard features on the Volkswagen T-Cross are halogen headlights, LED taillights, 16-inch alloy wheels, two USB ports for the rear passengers, and an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The SE variant adds more niceties such as LED headlights, front fog lamps, 17-inch alloy wheels, leather and fabric combination seat material, a 9.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, interior mood lighting, and a panoramic sunroof.

Under the hood, the Volkswagen T-Cross comes powered by a 1.5-liter Euro-6 compliant inline-4 cylinder petrol engine that produces a maximum output of 111 horsepower and 145 Nm of torque, paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Standard safety features on the T-Cross are dual front airbags, anti-lock braking system, electronic brakeforce distribution, electronic stabilisation program, and a tire pressure monitoring system. The SE variant adds four more airbags (bringing the total to 6), and even autonomous emergency braking or AEB which is an uncommon feature in the segment.

Now for the juicy part, pricing. The 2021 Volkswagen T-Cross of course, being sourced from China, takes advantage of the ASEAN-China Free Trade Agreement. With that, it will be offered with an introductory price starting at Php 1,068,000 for the 1.5 MPI S variant and Php 1,168,000 for the 1.5 MPI SE variant until its launch next month.

T-Cross buyers will also be able to take advantage of Volkswagen’s 3-Year 100,000 Kilometer Warranty and 2-Year Spare Parts Warranty. Just like other Volkswagen models in the country, it also only requires just once-a-year preventive maintenance service which VW says makes it between Php 12,000 to Php 15,000 more affordable to maintain versus its competition.

Volkswagen Philippines is now accepting reservations for the 2021 Volkswagen T-Cross. It will be officially launched on May 26.
