This Chinese crossover just scored zero stars from the ASEAN NCAP

Did you know that it’s still possible to score zero-star safety rating with how most vehicles today have been designed with stringent safety testing in mind? Apparently so as a crossover from the Middle Kingdom was able to achieve such in its ASEAN New Car Assessment Program (ASEAN NCAP) testing.
The Neta V, a fully-electric hatchback that is already being sold in Malaysia, Brunei, Thailand, and Indonesia, was rated based on the ASEAN NCAP 2021-2025 Protocol and the first to receive such rating under that.
It received an overall score of just 28.55 out of 100 points, with Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) at 7.89 points, Child Occupant Protection (COP) at 13.51 points, Safety Assist (SA) at 7.14 points, and Motorcyclist Safety (MS) at 0.00 points.

Among the things noted by the ASEAN NCAP is poor performance in the frontal offset and side impact tests under the AOP category, gaining zero points and 6.31 points, respectively. It also performed poorly in Child Restraint System installation. It did however perform well in the frontal offset and side impact tests during dynamic assessment.
Also, unlike many models available on the market today, there are no available advanced driver-assist systems on any variant of this model. Its seatbelts also did not have any pre-tensioners and load limiters.
Now you might ask why this matters for us in the Philippines given that the Neta brand is not yet available locally.
Well, the brand is actually setting-up a local presence with a dealership already under construction in Mandaluyong City. At least interested Filipino buyers will know to think twice before choosing this model once it becomes available.
