Toyota Gazoo Racing PH to debut a Tamaraw surprise this weekend

Here’s something special to look forward to this weekend at the Toyota Gazoo Racing Philippine Cup. Apart from a street circuit, Toyota Gazoo Racing Philippines will be debuting the Tamaraw Racing Concept, which was teased earlier this year by President Masando Hashimoto during the first leg of the season.

There’s no denying the Tamaraw’s potential in motorsports, as it is essentially a Hilux underneath, especially with a 2.4-liter turbodiesel engine (2GD-FTV) that’s extremely popular in both diesel drag racing and motorsports, especially in Thailand.

Thailand also fields a Hilux Champ in the Super Pickup Championship, which has been kitted with a lot of race-required modifications like a roll cage, widened fender flares, and even a rear wing at the back for extra downforce.

If you can recall, one of the concept cars shown off during the build-up to the launch of the Tamaraw was a “Gazoo-ified” version of the single cab variant, featuring a lowered stance, a body kit, and a set of aftermarket wheels wrapped in low-profile rubber. Since then, it’s made its appearance at several Philippine Cup races.

We don’t know if this will eventually take the Vios Cup’s place as the main event for upcoming Philippine Cup installments, There’s only one way to find out what this concept will look like, and that’s to visit the upcoming leg to be held at Villar City this coming May 24 to 25.
