Toyota Motor PH breaches 2M total units sales
Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has a lot to be proud of. From consistently maintaining their leadership in local passenger car sales, to the same for commercial vehicles sales, and even overall sales among all brands in the country in 2021.
Now, TMP has just breached a major sales milestone, selling 2,000,000 units ever since the company started its operations in 1988. This really is no surprise considering the amount of Toyota vehicles we see on our roads.
“Surpassing the two million mark would not be possible without the support of our loyal Toyota and Lexus customers, the commitment of our 73-strong Toyota dealer network, and of course the sense of ownership that every TMP team member has to our goal and responsibility of providing mobility for all. Thank you for making Philippines a Toyota country,” said TMP President Atsuhiro Okamoto.
“As a way of thanking our loyal customers who are part of the 2M sales milestone, we promise that One Team Toyota PH, which is composed of TMP, our affiliates, and our entire dealer network, will continue working as one to provide the best possible ownership experience,” Okamoto added.
Do note that the 2,000,000 unit sales number only includes TMP’s sales. That number does not include the amount of Toyota vehicles sold prior to 1988 when the Toyota brand was distributed by Delta Motor Corporation. This does however mean that there definitely has been a lot more Toyota vehicles sold locally.
Based in Sta. Rosa City in Laguna, Toyota Motor Philippines was established in 1988 through the partnership of Toyota Motor Corporation, GT Capital Holdings, and Mitsui & Co., LTD. The company operates the largest car manufacturing and assembly plant in the country that currently produces the Vios subcompact sedan and Innova 7-seater family MPV.
Since the start of its operations, TMP’s manufacturing plant has rolled out over 958,000 CKD (completely knocked-down) units, producing some of the most iconic cars on the road including the Crown, Corolla, Lite Ace, and Tamaraw. Today, TMP’s local manufacturing operations remain strong, selling over 35,000 Vios units, the most of any Passenger Car (PC), and more than 13,000 Innova units last year.
As mentioned earlier, TMP has consistently been the leader in local automotive sales. By the end of last year, they were able to corner 46.3% of the market, the highest in the company’s history, and the highest for Toyota in the ASEAN region.
“I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the generations of Toyota owners in the Philippines who have trusted and embraced the Toyota brand since TMP opened more than three decades ago,” said Alfred Ty, Chairman of TMP. “We are truly humbled that Filipinos have welcomed the Toyota brand as family, and we are grateful to be entrusted with the responsibility of helping the Philippines build a mobility-empowered society. Your continued trust and patronage inspire us to continuously improve and evolve our operations, so that we can help modernize mobility and contribute to nation-building.”
It took TMP 34 years to reach their 2M unit sales milestone. With their continuous and fast growth, it surely won’t be too long before they reach another million, perhaps within the next 15 years.
