Toyota Motor PH teases new “compact SUV,” Veloz?
Back when Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) officially introduced the all-new Avanza small MPV back in March, it was missing a Veloz variant, known as the top-spec version of the popular model’s previous generation. Well it seems like we’ll be getting it soon.
A teaser video was posted on TMP’s official social media for a new compact SUV and the silhouette definitely matches that of the Veloz. Unlike the previous generation though, the new Veloz will be a separate model.
It is not far-fetched though for TMP to introduce the Veloz sometime soon as during the Avanza’s launch, they did make mention that it would follow eventually. Interestingly though, based on the teaser video, TMP will be marketing the new model as a compact SUV. This could mean that they may replace the Rush with this, given the fact that it has received a trimmed-down lineup in Indonesia where it is sourced from. The Philippines may follow-suit as the Rush is also currently one of the company’s compact SUV offerings.
If the Veloz is coming, we can surely expect it to be much more well-equipped compared to the Avanza with standard features like LED headlights, sportier front grille, 17-inch alloy wheels, and wraparound LED taillights. It’s the same story inside with a larger 9-inch infotainment system, two-tone color scheme, leather and fabric combination seat materials, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and ambient lighting.
Under the hood, the Veloz should share the same powertrain with the local top-spec Avanza 1.5 G CVT. It would be a 1.5-liter 2NR-VE Inline 4-cylinder that produces 106 horsepower and 137 Nm of torque, paired to a CVT.
A report by CarGuidePH also mentions that there will be two variants for the Veloz. These are G and V which will also be available in four color choices that are White Pearl, Dark Red, Black Mica, and Purplish Silver. Finally, the report also mentions a launch within the week so it looks like we won’t have to wait too long.
