Toyota RAV4 goes hybrid, starts at Php 2.157M

Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) is not slowing down its push for electrification. Over two months after launching the updated Camry midsize sedan in a hybrid-only option, they have officially introduced the RAV4 Hybrid, a month after initially announcing its availability in the country.

Not only is the 2022 Toyota RAV4 now only available with a hybrid powertrain, it is also refreshed with updated looks and features. The new RAV4 Hybrid lineup is composed of two variants, the XLE and LTD.

The rapid succession of Toyota’s HEV model introductions in the country are an indicator that hybrid cars are now mainstream. Filipinos are ready for energy efficient mobility options with less emissions, and Hybrids offer choices that are practical and ready to use in our existing infrastructure and road conditions,” said Sherwin Chualim, TMP’s First Vice President for Vehicle Sales Operations.

The updated RAV4 gets revised headlight clusters and new alloy wheels. Standard equipment are LED headlights with LED daytime running lights, LED fog lights, LED taillights, power tailgate and 17-inch alloy wheels. The LTD variant gets larger 18-inch alloy wheels, auto-folding mirrors, rain-sensing wipers, roof rails, and a power sunroof.

Inside, the 2022 RAV4 remains pretty much the same as the previous model with only a new infotainment system, upgraded into Toyota’s own system. The new system is a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other standard equipment are a 6-speaker audio system, fabric seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, and wireless phone charging pad. The LTD gets leather seats, power adjustment for the driver’s seat, and a 7-inch multi-information display.

Under the hood, again, the 2022 Toyota RAV4 is exclusively available with a hybrid powertrain. It is powered by a 2.5-liter Dynamic Force inline 4-cylinder petrol engine, paired to an electric motor. Total combined output for this hybrid powertrain is 218 horsepower while torque is pegged at 221 Nm. Power is sent to the front wheels through a continuously variable transmission.

For safety, Toyota Safety Sense, the brand’s safety suite of driver-assistance tech is now standard on all variants. These features are Pre-Collision System, Automatic High Beams, Lane Tracing Assist, Lane Departure Alert, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (Adaptive cruise control), Blind Spot Monitor, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. This is on top of the usual safety features such as 7 Airbags, Anti-Lock Brakes, Stability Control, and Hill Start Assist. Also, the XLE gets a reverse camera while the LTD gets a panoramic view monitor.

The 2022 Toyota RAV4 is now available at all Toyota dealerships with a starting price of Php 2,157,000 for the XLE, and Php 2,500,000 for the LTD. Choosing the White Pearl exterior color option adds Php 15,000 to the suggested retail prices.
