Toyota unveils the GR LH2 Racing Concept at the 24 Hours of Le Mans

While Toyota Gazoo Racing will be busy tackling the 93rd edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans this coming weekend (June 14 to 15, 2025) with its retro-inspired GR010 Hypercar, it’s also letting the rest of the world know that it’s still working hard on the future of hydrogen technology in motorsports as part of its multi-pathway approach to carbon neutrality.

At last year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans, TGR showed off the GR H2 concept, which was a way of signaling Toyota’s intent to field a hydrogen-powered car in the World Endurance Championship in the future.

The automaker has a lot of experience using liquid hydrogen in motorsports, like in Super Taikyu’s ST-Q experimental class, or the GR Yaris H2 demonstration runs during the Ypres Rally stage.

This time, it has taken it a step further by showing off the GR LH2 Racing Concept.

While this may look similar to last year’s concept, this blue-and-white-wrapped concept now has reached a significant milestone, such as being based on the current GR010 Hypercar, meaning that the 3.5-liter, twin-turbo V6 now is capable of running on liquid hydrogen, if they still retained the same motor. Of course, it’s still mated to a hybrid system that’s capable of pushing out at least 268 horsepower on electric power alone.

Obviously, you won’t see Toyota field this in the race right away, but we’re hopeful that this concept car will soon be running under its own power in the next installment of the 24 Hours of Le Mans next year.
