The Toyota Yaris Cross gains a five-star safety rating from the ASEAN NCAP

Unlike the Nissan Almera which only received a four-star safety rating, the Toyota Yaris Cross has been able to get a perfect five stars from the ASEAN New Car Assessment Program (ASEAN NCAP).
The latest crossover from the Japanese automaker to undergo safety testing under the ASEAN NCAP’s 2021-2025 protocol, it was able to garner a respectable accumulated score of 83.02 out of 100 points, based on four categories.
The results per category are as follows:
- Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) – 36.36 out of 40 points
- Child Occupant Protection (COP) – 17.32 out of 20 points
- Safety Assist (SA) – 16.89 out of 20 points
- Motorcyclist Safety (MS) – 12.21 out of 20 points
In the assessment, the model provided good protection to the dummy occupants seated inside the vehicle, with the SUV’s frontal compartment remaining stable. Findings from the data showed that there was adequate protection for both occupants’ chests, with the driver receiving marginal protection for the right lower leg.

“ASEAN NCAP is proud to recognise Toyota’s strong commitment to vehicle safety, particularly in ensuring the majority of its popular models achieve 5-Star ASEAN NCAP ratings. With the launch of its latest SUV, the Yaris Cross, Toyota continues to uphold this commitment by equipping the model with key advanced safety assist technologies, available either as standard or optional features. Toyota’s initiative to include these features reflects its proactive approach to meeting ASEAN NCAP’s current assessment protocol. We look forward to continuing to work with Toyota and other brands to ensure their commitments align with ASEAN NCAP’s mission to promote safer vehicles and protect road users across the region,” said ASEAN NCAP’s press release.
