Volkswagen PH is launching the global T-Cross soon
Volkswagen has been in the Philippines for quite some time now. The brand was relaunched under the distributorship of AC Motors in 2013 with global models such as the Jetta and Beetle to name a few.
In 2018, that all changed when the brand’s local distributor decided to do away with popular nameplates and instead introduce more affordable China-sourced models which are the Santana, Lavida, and Lamando. The company even relaunched the first generation Tiguan despite already previously introducing the second generation version. As expected, this didn’t go so well.
Last year in 2020, affected as well by the COVID-19 pandemic, Volkswagen Philippines sold less than 200 units which is very small compared to other mainstream brands, and even newer Chinese car brands. The company however is leaving all that behind and is now going back to having a truly global model in their local lineup.
Executives of Volkswagen Philippines announced during a virtual media roundtable that they will be launching the T-Cross subcompact SUV locally within the next few months. The T-Cross is Volkswagen’s first subcompact SUV and is produced in three key facilities worldwide–Brazil, China, and Germany. Globally, it has been launched simultaneously in Amsterdam in the Netherlands, São Paulo in Brazil, and Shanghai in China which garnered exceptional sales performance across worldwide markets.
Aside from the Volkswagen T-Cross, the automaker would be introducing up to two more models within the year—all proudly bearing the Volkswagen global standard of design and engineering. Volkswagen has, indeed, set its sights on future mobility defined by technology, sustainability, connectivity, and inclusivity.
These new future introductions should allow the company to bounce back in a market that is continuously changing where each company is becoming more and more competitive not only in terms of price, but also in terms of features which is becoming an important consideration for many local car buyers today, especially with the introduction of affordable, feature-packed, and powerful Chinese vehicles.
A seat has been reserved for Volkswagen Philippines on this exciting ride, and the Filipino motorist may probably get the best view of the automotive giant’s next moves.
