The latest in Philippine motoring.

We finally get to see the new Geely Coolray in person, price starts at Php 1.139M

The Geely Coolray has received quite the refresh.

You probably already know that the heavily revised Geely Coolray was quietly introduced in our market a couple of months ago, coinciding with the takeover of Geely Automotive International Corporation (GAIC).

We finally got our hands on it during a special media preview prior to the brand’s formal relaunch under Geely Motor Philippines and here’s what we know and saw.

Like before, three variants are available for the subcompact crossover. Here they are and their respective prices:

  • Coolray 1.5 Comfort Plus – Php 1,139,000
  • Coolray 1.5 Premium Plus – Php 1,199,000
  • Coolray 1.5 Sport Plus – Php 1,299,000

Of note, the Coolray 1.5 Sport Plus painted in Light Gray or Purple Prism command a Php 30,000 premium over other color options.

The exterior has been almost completely revamped.
The Sport’s “boy racer” spoiler has been retained for this refresh.

As we’ve already mentioned, the Coolray is heavily redesigned. Its exterior wears the brand’s Vision Starburst design language with its new front fascia composed of a larger front mesh grille, and energy matrix LED headlights, as well as a completely revamped interior featuring a more modern and sleek design with a two-tone black and red color scheme.

The interior is completely new.
Geely has listened! This new infotainment system comes with Apple CarPlay.

Its 10.25-inch digital instrument panel gets new graphics, and it also gets a new 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Geely has also listened and finally includes Apple CarPlay connectivity as a standard feature.

The engine is also completely new.

Under the hood, it gets a new 1.5-liter NordThor Power turbocharged Inline four-cylinder gasoline engine that produces 174 horsepower and 290 Nm of torque. This replaces the previous version’s three-cylinder turbo. It is still mated to a 7-speed (wet) dual-clutch transmission as before.

The around-view monitor gets a wider field-of-view.

Safety-wise, it gets blind spot detection and intelligent automatic parking assist like before. There’s also a 540-degree HD panoramic camera system with a built-in intelligent four-way HD digital video recorder (DVR), as well as a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS). Unfortunately, it still does not get advanced driver-assistance tech unlike its rivals.

With the brand and model having lost some ground, do you think this major refresh is enough to recover lost sales?
