A few weeks ago, Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) Philippines, the motorsports arm of Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP), announced the dates of this year’s Toyota Gazoo Racing Philippine Cup.
Formerly known as the TGR Vios Cup and happening between as early as March until August this year, there’s a lot to be excited about as with every season, but it looks like there’s more to look forward to this year.
One of which, as hinted by TMP President Masando Hashimoto, is the possibility of seeing the new Toyota Tamaraw racing in the annual motorsports event.

It’s not unusual for diesel vehicles such as pickups and pickup-based SUVs to race on the track, particularly for drag races, but circuit racing is something different. Such is also not new to the Toyota Tamaraw, or at least its Thai-counterpart—the Hilux Champ—which currently races at the Super Pickup Championship.

Another good hint at this is the “GR” Tamaraw concept vehicle that has been used as a pace car and display car by TMP in TGR events throughout the past year. Don’t you think?
But wait, there’s more.
Hashimoto also hinted at the possibility of doing races on street circuits. Not only will this bring the races closer to fans and spectators residing inside the city, it will also create a different kind of challenge for drivers. It will also be remembered that the Toyota Vios Cup was also held on street circuits a couple of times.

For e-sports fans, the global Toyota Gazoo Racing Gran Turismo (TGR GT) Cup is set to return for another season. Utilizing the popular Gran Turismo racing simulator, this series brings out the best in racers on the virtual track.

And finally, Hashimoto also said that they are looking at the possibility of collaborating with another automotive brand for a motorsports festival. Perhaps a local adaptation of the Hyundai N x Toyota Gazoo Racing Festival which was held in South Korea last year? Your guess is as good as ours.
