We want the Super Short Wheelbase Toyota Tamaraw in PH

The Toyota Tamaraw is already getting a fair amount of traction. And by the looks of it, most buyers are going for the turbodiesel-powered long wheelbase (LWB) variants. But what if there was perhaps a shorter wheelbase version of it?
In Thailand, yes. Toyota Motor Thailand has revealed a Super Short Wheelbase (SWB) version of the Hilux Champ, which is essentially their version of our local Tamaraw.
Sure, the long wheelbase variants will have the best cargo loading capabilities, but not everyone needs a long bed. In fact, the Hilux Champ Super SWB’s cargo bed is nearly half a meter shorter (-445mm) compared to the SWB bodystyle, and 780mm shorter than the LWB’s.

In terms of wheelbase length, the Super SWB measures at 2,580mm. That’s 170mm shorter than the SWB’s 2,750mm, and 505mm shorter than the LWB’s 3,085mm.
Powering the Hilux Champ Super SWB is still the tried-and-tested 2.4-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel (2GD-FTV), exclusively mated to a six-speed automatic transmission for this application, and producing 150 horsepower and 400Nm of torque.
The reduced length and weight should make for a more agile and less boat-like driving experience, along with easier maneuverability and parking when in narrow and tight spaces.

That’s not all though, as the Super SWB comes in what’s called the Attractive Package. This fits in LED headlights from the highest variants, and plastic cladding with the Hilux name on the doors. The inside gets orange accents, power windows, black vinyl seats, but interestingly, no infotainment screen or head unit.
We think this variant makes sense for the Philippine market, especially with how parking and street space is precious. Should Toyota Motor Philippines add a Tamaraw Super Short Wheelbase to the model’s already expansive lineup?
