The LTO Replacement Plate tracker actually works
Does your car still sport the old green-on-white license plates, or the one with an image of the Rizal Monument in Luneta Park in the background? Then you probably already paid to have them replaced about a decade ago.
Back in 2013, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) began the license plate standardization project. For new cars, this meant a new format with three letters and four numbers, while for older cars, a new black-on-white license plate with new security features. Unsurprisingly, things went bonkers but you might just get your new plates soon.
Here’s the good news, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and LTO has just unveiled a new website where you can check if your replacement license plate is already available, and where. And the best part? It actually works!
Upon opening the website, all you have to do is input your vehicle’s license plate number. It will then tell you if your replacement plate is already available and from which LTO office can you claim it. We tried it for three of our vehicles and you can see in the screenshots below the results.
On the other hand, if your replacement plate is not yet available, the website will tell you to try again after 30 to 60 days.
Do note though that if your replacement plate is already available, the LTO is oddly planning to give fines to those who have yet to claim their plates after 60 days. Beats us losing out to them for a decade, huh?
