Is the Acura Nexera Vision concept just a design direction or a preview of a future NSX?

With all the news coming out of Honda recently, it’s easy to see that the brand is experiencing a bit of a downturn. However, the doom and gloom isn’t stopping its designers and engineers from churning out concept cars that will showcase the brand’s future design direction.
Meet the Acura Nexera Vision, a low-slung, two-seater concept car that “showcases the direction of the next-generation design of the Acura brand”. This concept car was shown off at The Quail during the Monterey Car Week held in California.

This low-slung concept car features a very low nose, an all-glass canopy, dual-hinged butterfly doors, and a new “phantom lighting” signature that blends into the body when not lit. They form the shape of an “A”, which is based on, well, Acura’s first letter. We’ll be seeing this one in the upcoming RDX crossover, which is scheduled to be released in a few years.

As for the interior, it’s naturally a driver-focused cabin with a wrap-around screen that acts as an instrument cluster and uses sustainable materials like Alcantara, recycled polyester, recycled aluminum, and a circular leather material that’s aptly named CircularLeather.

Being a concept car, powertrains aren’t confirmed at all. However, we do know that Honda is working hard on its newest iteration of its e:HEV hybrid system, alongside several battery-electric models, and a new platform that’s being designed in collaboration with Tata Engineering, so it could be anything if this concept does come into existence.

With the Acura brand having celebrated its 40th anniversary this year, it’s a fine way to culminate four decades, especially with a concept that also harks back to the likes of the NSX, which also happened to be sold as an Acura. One can dream, but we’re very hopeful that this will turn out to be a preview of a future NSX, or at least, elements of this concept will make it into Honda’s future flagship.
