Metro Pacific Tollways hit by data breach, Easytrip accounts secure

Data breaches seem to be very common these days. The latest to fall victim to such is Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC), the operator of various expressways and owner of the Easytrip RFID in the country.

In a statement posted on its official social media pages, the company said that a limited data breach took place on the evening of September 7, 2024 (Saturday), with some user accounts having been accessed and possibly compromised.

Thankfully, the data breach has already been contained by their Information Security Team, and the company assures Easytrip users that their account information and RFID load balances are safe.

We assure our Easytrip account holders that their toll wallet balances are intact and secure. We will reach out to the affected account holders,” said MPTC.

Well at least they’ve given us a bit of relief as they work on the issue. Despite their assurance though, it’ll probably be best to go and check your Easytrip account balances to make sure that you did not lose any of your precious toll load.

MPTC is the operator of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), Subic Freeport Expressway (SFEX), Manila-Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX), Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX), CAVITEX-C5 Link Expressway (C5 Southlink), and Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX). The company also owns Easytrip, the cashless toll payment provider of the aforementioned expressways.
