CONFIRMED: BYD Seal 5 DM-i is launching in PH on November 21
After a little bit of speculation, us spotting a unit driving on local roads, and a teaser on the BYD Cars Philippines Facebook page, we can already confirm that the BYD Seal 5 DM-i is launching in the Philippines–on November 21, to be exact.
In fact, The Chinese NEV has already shown us the actual local spec units (in photos) and we even got to drive them already.
The BYD Seal 5 DM-i is known as the Destroyer 05 in China, or the Chazor and King in other markets. We don’t know why it’s called the Seal 5 here but it’s probably to keep it in line with the rest of the BYD Ocean Series which consists of the Sealion 6 DM-i compact crossover and Seal full-electric midsize sedan.
The Seal DM-i will be the brand’s second DM-i model in the country after the Sealion 6 which means it will get a range-extended powertrain which is pretty much like a plug-in hybrid (PHEV). While we can’t divulge yet exactly what we’re getting here, we can already show you the vehicle’s exterior which is in the photos right here.
With its compact sedan dimensions, this will be aimed directly at the recently launched updated Honda Civic RS e:HEV, and the Toyota Corolla Altis GR-S HEV. As of this writing, we don’t know yet how competitive pricing will be against these possible rivals.
At least we don’t have to wait too long to get and give you more information as we and BYD Cars Philippines can reveal all that upon its launch on November 21 which is just a few days from now.
