Here’s a preview of Geely PH’s future with the EX5

Forget about the Geometry C that SGAP showed off before, here’s the much more advanced EX5.

The new Geely Motor Philippines is officially here. After a long transition period to its new distributor which so happens to be its mother company, the Geely Automobile International Corporation, the brand is looking to make one big splash by formally introducing two updated models for the “present” and a preview of the “future” with the EX5 electric crossover.

This curvy crossover is a C-segment crossover measuring 4,615mm long, 1,670mm tall, and 1,901mm wide with a wheelbase of 2,750mm, meaning it competes against the likes of the Toyota Corolla Cross and more importantly, the BYD Atto 3.

The EX5’s smooth front fascia and curves all contribute to an incredibly low drag coefficient of 0.269, very important in maximizing the range of this BEV. Otherwise, its feature set is par for the course for a modern car with LED headlamps, 19-inch two-tone wheels, and a taillight design that’s comprised of multiple light bars.

The future of Geely’s cars debuts in the EX5.

More importantly, Geely’s new “shield” logo and its in-house Flyme Auto tech are front and center, making their debut on the EX5. The Flyme Auto tech comprises the operating system, the audio solution, and the Level 2+ advanced driver assistance systems on the car.

The hard numbers? Three screens: a 15.4-inch touchscreen, 10.2-inch driver’s display, and a 13.8-inch heads-up display. There’s a ventilated wireless charger, and the sound system has 16 speakers dotted around the cabin, including inside the headrest.

Compared to the rest of Geely’s products, the interior design is more minimalistic, emphasizing space for the occupants. A panoramic sunroof, front seats that include ventilation, massaging, and the ability to fold flat, and several hidden compartments around the cabin for lots of space. In fact, the cargo bay can expand up to 1,877L, thanks to a clever three-layer design.

Finally, this is underpinned by the Global Intelligent New Energy architecture or GEA 3.0 platform, integrating tech such as a cell-to-body battery structure, and an incredibly compact 11-in-1 electric motor package design that’s rated at 160kW (218 horsepower) and 320Nm, with a 0-100km/h sprint time of 6.9 seconds.

Coupled with a Short Blade-style battery, the rated capacity from the lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) cell is 60.2 kWh. You can get 136 km of range from a 10-minute top-up, with a 20-minute charge able to fill up to 80% from a 30% charge, and 10 to 80% takes 28 minutes. It’s also capable of vehicle-to-load and vehicle-to-vehicle functionality, too.

You can actually walk into a Geely dealership as the pre-sale period has begun, where you can pay a Php 10,000 reservation fee to get up to Php 110,000 of discounts. Final details of the vehicle will be revealed during the vehicle’s launch, which is slated to happen this coming March.
