Nissan reveals third generation of e-POWER tech

Nissan’s e-POWER is known for its full EV-like performance and efficiency, but the Japanese automaker isn’t satisfied just yet and has just revealed the latest version of their electric-drive technology.

First introduced on the European market Qashqai crossover, e-POWER is now in its third generation. Nissan says this newest iteration brings improvements in vehicle fuel consumption, carbon dioxide emissions, cabin noise reduction, and a better response and driving engagement.

At the core of the new e-POWER is a 5-in-1 modular powertrain unit which integrates the system’s electric motor, generator, inverter, reducer and increaser into a compact and lighter package. Improvements to engine calibration and sound insulation also reduces both noise and vibration.

The engine itself which acts as a charge generator is still a 1.5-liter three-cylinder turbo that adopts Nissan’s STARC combustion concept which has a 42% thermal efficiency, and gets a larger turbocharger which reduces engine speed by 200RPM during highway driving.

For the Nissan Qashqai, combined power is up by 15 horsepower (for a maximum of 205 horsepower). It also now makes use of 0W16 oil which reduces internal friction and generates additional engine efficiency.

The best part is the benefits all go to the end user. For starters, maintenance costs will be easier on vehicle owners as service intervals have been extended from every 15,000km to every 20,000km. Fuel efficiency has been increased by 16% and even brings range up to over 1,000km on a single full tank of gas.

In the Philippines, Nissan only currently sells the Kicks with e-POWER. We don’t know yet what other models are set to have the EV-like hybrid powertrain and if it’ll be the new third generation version, but we’re sure the Japanese automaker will eventually be able to bring it here.

For now, customers in North America will see the new e-POWER on the next-generation Rogue set to debut in fiscal year 2026, and for Japanese customers, on the next-generation Elgrand set to debut also in that fiscal year.
