The newest member of the Range Rover family is an electric GT crossover

Things have been fairly quiet at Land Rover recently, especially with how its other half, Jaguar, has been going all-in with electrification and had to drop its lineup for the upcoming Type 00.

Now, Land Rover is welcoming the “fifth member” of its family with the upcoming Range Rover GT. At the moment, this is more like a teaser as the car is still camouflaged, but the British automaker has divulged a handful of information.

For starters, this low-slung silhouette features “coupé-like proportions” that’s still just as capable as every other Range Rover. This is also the very first full-electric Range Rover based on the new EMA platform, with a full hybrid version to follow later on in its life cycle.

There was also a preview of the interior which just shouts minimalism. There’s a large single screen for the infotainment, alongside a slim and wide driver’s display behind the steering wheel, alongside a single concealed air vent that spans the width of the dashboard.

It uses a lot of flat surfaces and woven textile alongside other luxurious materials, and the textile also is designed to conceal speakers within them for a cleaner, less “noisy” interior appearance, especially with the light colors and panoramic glass roof.

It will be manufactured in Halewood, UK, and more information for the car will be available in the coming months. Do you think that this is the right direction for Land Rover to make its newer models less SUV-like and more car-like, which might potentially overlap with Jaguar?
