Jaecoo J5 EV launches in PH with 461km of range, Php 1.399M SRP

Not long after its initial local preview at the 10th Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS) last June, the Jaecoo J5 EV has officially been launched in the Philippines.

Proudly and repeatedly marketed by Omoda & Jaecoo (O&J) Philippines as the “bestselling pure electric SUV in Thailand and Indonesia,” which thankfully is a fact, the J5 EV comes as a follow up to the crossover’s hybrid variant which was introduced locally back in April, and is the Chinese automaker’s second battery electric vehicle (BEV) offering in our market after the Omoda E5.

Only one variant of the Jaecoo J5 EV is available for our market, priced at Php 1,399,000. This is powered by a front-mounted electric motor with a maximum power output of 211 horsepower and 288Nm of torque. With a 58.9kWh LFP battery, it’s capable of driving up to 461km on a single full charge. Internal testing by O&J Philippines also reveals that it can drive up to as much as 539.2km.

The battery can be replenished from 30-80% in 28 minutes through CCS2 DC fast charging (80kW), or via Type 2 AC charging (6.6kW). O&J Philippines also says that the J5 EV can go from 0 to 100kph in 7.7 seconds.

In terms of looks, the J5 EV wears the same overall design as its hybrid sibling, but with a cleaned-up and EV-optimized front fascia through a closed-off front grille. The interior remains the same as the hybrid version with a minimalist design and floating design for the center stack.

It features full LED exterior lighting, 18-inch alloy wheels, an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, a 13.2-inch vertical infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, leather seats, a panoramic glass roof, wireless phone charger, and multi-color ambient lighting, among others.

O&J Philippines also touts the J5 EV as an off-road oriented SUV despite its rather low ground clearance of 174mm (just 4mm higher than a Mitsubishi Mirage G4). It does however have a 20° approach angle and 29.8° departure angle.

The Jaecoo J5 EV is also equipped with a suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). Among these are adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, lane change assist, and more.

Buyers of the Jaecoo J5 EV will be able to take advantage of a seven-year or 200,000km full vehicle warranty, an eight-year or 160,000km electric powertrain warranty, and a new Battery State of Health (SOH) warranty where the vehicle’s battery can be replaced for free if its capacity falls below 70% during the warranty period. Customers will also receive one-year free preventive maintenance service (PMS), one-year free roadside assistance, three-year complimentary mobile remote vehicle control service, and a free 7kW wall charger.
