Dongfeng Nissan teases the NX7; could it be a BYD Sealion 6 fighter?

It’s no secret that Nissan is going all-in with releasing vehicles produced with its Chinese joint venture partner, Dongfeng, for the global market. With upcoming products like the Navara Pro (Frontier Pro) and the Primera EV (N7) destined to be sold globally, it doesn’t make sense to turn a blind eye to any of the upcoming releases from the Middle Kingdom.

A new electric crossover has just been teased by Dongfeng Nissan on Chinese social media, and it’s called the NX7. Not much information has been revealed yet, but from the naming convention alone, it naturally means that it slots right under the larger NX8 EV SUV.

It sports a design language that looks to be a continuation of the same one found on the Primera EV (N7) and the NX8, with split LED lighting, an LED light bar with separate modules, two-tone aerodynamic alloy wheels, a LiDAR hump for advanced driver assistance systems, and a sleek, streamlined body with mechanical door handles.
It resembles the Urban SUV PHEV concept that was shown off at Auto China 2026 in Beijing a few months ago, which highlights Nissan’s accelerated model development cycle, something that Chinese automakers have implemented.

Just from seeing the concept car in person at the auto show, the size is more akin to a compact crossover, meaning that Dongfeng Nissan could have the likes of the BYD Sealion 6 and Geely EX5 squarely in its sights. And while the NX8 is a full EV, the NX7 could be a plug-in hybrid if the concept is to be believed.
We’ll know more details about the vehicle when the automaker finally unveils it, but would you buy this over something like a BYD Sealion 6 or Geely EX5?
This is a developing story.
