This is your first look at the 2022 Honda Civic Type R

While we’re still waiting for the 11th generation Honda Civic sedan to reach our shores, expected to be before the year ends, Honda is giving a glimpse of the new Civic Type R which is expected to be fully revealed next year.

Based on the Civic Hatchback, the Civic Type R is a high performance version of the popular model nameplate and builds on Honda’s heritage for building high performance products.

Despite wearing camouflage, it’s already easy to see what will set the Type R apart from the standard Civic Hatchback such as a body kit, large rear wing, and a different set of wheels and tires. Also easy to see are the red Brembo brake calipers and large brake discs. At the back, other than the large rear wing, three exhaust pipes can be found in the center of the bumper just like on the current Civic Type R.

Nothing else has been revealed yet including the powertrain. We do expect the new Civic Type R to get an uprated version of the current 2.0L turbocharged engine that produces 306 hp and 400 Nm of torque. We also expect it to stay exclusively paired to a 6-speed manual transmission.

Again, the new Honda Civic Type R will be revealed by next year. Before then, we are already expecting a few more details to pop up whether unofficial or official.
