Honda unleashes all-new 2023 Civic Type R

2 min read

Just in time for the celebration of the Civic nameplate’s 50th year in production, Honda has just officially unveiled the latest version of the Honda Civic Type R, the popular model’s high performance version, also in time for the Type R moniker’s 30th anniversary.

Honda says that the all-new 2023 Civic Type R is the most powerful Type R ever and has been engineered from the ground up to deliver a thrilling, addictive driving experience, both on road and the racetrack.

Based on the Civic Hatchback, the all-new Honda Civic Type R features a new lightweight and highly rigid body that helps improve high speed stability and scalpel-sharp responses. Track-ready, Nürburgring-tuned and tested, Civic Type R’s driving feel is increased even further by enhanced suspension and steering performance.

Under its hood is a 2.0-liter Inline 4-cylinder VTEC Turbo that is exclusively designed for the Type R. It is still exclusively paired to a 6-speed manual transmission. Unfortunately, power and torque figures have not yet been announced but Honda says that it will be higher than that of previous generations. Of course, whatever power will be sent to the front wheels.

Looking at the exterior, the all-new Honda Civic Type R is now longer, lower, and wider than before. It features a Type R exclusive honeycomb front grille with the iconic red Honda emblem, the lower grille is also larger to allow more air into the intercooler. It then rides on smaller 19-inch matte black lightweight alloy Type R wheels. Meanwhile, the rear door is wider than that of the standard Civic Hatchback. The redesigned rear bumper also shows off its three exhaust pipes in the center and its rear diffuser.

The all-new Honda Civic Type R will be available in five striking colors which areHistoric Championship White (a Type R exclusive finish revered by Honda enthusiasts), Rallye Red, Boost Blue, Crystal Black Pearl and Sonic Grey Pearl.

Inside, the all-new Civic Type R is of course very familiar if you know the 11th generation Civic. On top of that, it features red seats, carpet and trim, and a serialized Type R plate now placed on the dashboard.

A new +R driving mode exclusive meter design allows the driver to obtain necessary information instantly, with a graphic engine rpm display, rev indicator lights, and gear position indicator placed at the top. A lower multi-information display can show vehicle information selected by the driver.

The Honda LogR data logger provides real-time information on the mechanical movements of the vehicle and vehicle behavior resulting from the driver’s input. Other key features include a stopwatch to record lap times and the ability to share driving videos.

What do you think of the all-new 2023 Honda Civic Type R? Pricing and additional details about it are expected to come out in the coming months. As for a local introduction, hopefully Honda Cars Philippines lets us know soon.
