Mazda adds a new color for the ND Miata in Zinc Green Metallic

If anything, right now, Mazda is regarded as one of those mainstream manufacturers with some of the most eye-catching paint finishes, with its special Takuminuri colors, such as Artisan Red and Rhodium White, to its more iconic colors, such as Soul Red Crystal and Machine Gray.

However, the current lineup* of Mazda colors excludes the green hue, something that is highly in demand, especially for the current ND MX-5/Roadster, which comes with a tan interior and tan top that would be the ideal combination for the color green, especially in the classic British Racing Green.

At the recent Karuizawa Meeting 2026 held in Japan, Mazda debuted the long-awaited hue on its ND MX-5 with Zinc Green Metallic, which is a “modern green that harmonizes with natural landscapes and urban settings.” More interesting is the light gray soft top that debuts alongside this color.

Mazda says that this muted shade of green takes inspiration from the color and texture of zinc chromate primer, an undercoat usually found in industrial products. Under bright light, the metallic color shows off the body lines thanks to bluish metallic flakes that give off a cooler, more refined tone of gray.

If you want to see what it looks like in real-life photos, Japanese publication Kuruma News has a handful of them.

If you were wondering about the asterisk above by the current lineup, Mazda fans will know that at least in North America, Mazda offers a darker and richer shade in Cypress Green, which is originally a Toyota color, as they share a manufacturing plant in Huntsville, Alabama.

This collaboration is what allowed Mazda to get the Toyota Hybrid System, among other things, for several models in the US market, and in exchange, Toyota gets to use Soul Red Crystal on the likes of the Corolla Cross.

The new color options will first be sold within the Japanese market, and eventually make their way around the world, with the Philippines obviously in that list, as our market is one of the biggest for Mazda MX-5s outside of Japan. What are your thoughts on the new color, and which shade of green would you have preferred to make its debut on the MX-5?
