MIAS 2023: GAC Emkoo arrives in PH, starts at Php 1.413M
GAC Motor Philippines is on a roll. After its relaunch under Astara Philippines’ distributorship, which also coincided with the introduction of two new models, the company has introduced another new model at this year’s edition of the Manila International Auto Show (MIAS).
Say hello to the GAC Emkoo, a new compact crossover SUV, slotting above the GS4 which is the brand’s only current fighter in the segment. It is set to compete with the likes of the Ford Territory and MG HS. It is available in two variants: GE and GL.
Looking at its exterior, the Emkoo gets a very futuristic and striking front fascia with plenty of diagonal elements. It is a huge departure from the design characteristics of other GAC models available locally such as the recently launched Empow sedan and GS8 SUV. The side features hidden door handles and sharp creases, while the rear also features plenty of pointed design elements with an overall look that we think is similar to the 1st generation Volvo XC60.
As for the interior, it’s also very modern with its large screens, metal tube-like housing for the air vents which is inspired by ancient Chinese scrolls, and its electric blue interior ambient lighting.
Some of its equipment include 19-inch alloy wheels, LED exterior lighting, 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment with Apple CarPlay, 7-inch digital instrument cluster, leather seats with ventilation, and interior ambient lighting, just to name a few.
Under the hood of the GAC Emkoo is a 1.5-liter turbocharged Inline 4-cylinder gasoline engine that produces 177 horsepower and 270 Nm of torque, paired to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Safety is also not forgotten as it is equipped with advanced driver-assist systems (ADAS), giving it adaptive cruise control with integrated cruise assist, traffic sign recognition, forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, and lane keep assist, among others.
Again, the GAC Emkoo is available in two variants. The Emkoo 1.5 GE is priced at Php 1,413,000 while the Emkoo 1.5 GL is priced at Php 1,553,000. Those are very competitive if you ask us.
