The Mitsubishi Destinator is the brand’s new 7-seater crossover

Mitsubishi Motors Indonesia has unveiled its newest seven-seater SUV, the Destinator.

Based on the DST Concept that was unveiled at last year’s Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS), the Destinator shares its platform with the Xpander MPV and Xforce subcompact SUV, the former being one of the most popular vehicle models here in the Philippines.

Three variants are available for the Indonesian market: GLS, Exceed, and Ultimate

The Mitsubishi Destinator stays true to its concept version, design-wise, taking a lot of cues from the Xforce subcompact crossover, albeit in a larger and more upright package.

It measures at 4,680mm long, 1,840mm wide, and 1,780mm tall. Ground clearance is at 244mm which is actually higher than the larger Mitsubishi Montero Sport (218mm) and is very competitive with other pickup-based SUVs.

The front fascia features T-shaped headlights that flank a larger Dynamic Shield grille which tapers off into the corners of the bumper. The fenders get a muscular shape and house a set of 18-inch alloy wheels. Meanwhile, the rear also features T-shaped taillights along with a ruggedly styled bumper.

The interior features a layered dashboard layout, and shares its eight-inch digital instrument cluster and 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with the Xforce. It also features several hard buttons and toggles for various functions such as the climate controls and drive modes.

Second row passengers will enjoy foldable tray tables which can be used for eating or for placing gadgets, and USB Type A and C ports which can be found on every row. There’s also a panoramic sunroof, and like the Xforce, a Dynamic Sound Yamaha Premium audio system is equipped.

As we reported just last week, the Mitsubishi Destinator is powered by a 1.5-liter (4B40) four-cylinder turbocharged MIVEC engine. This is good for 163 horsepower and 250Nm of torque, mated to a CVT that sends power to the front wheels.

Five drive modes allow users to tailor the powertrain to their driving needs or road conditions: Normal, Wet, Gravel, Mud, and the new Tarmac mode which is said to offer more agile driving on twisty roads.

It’s also equipped with Mitsubishi’s Diamond Sense suite of advanced driver-assist systems (ADAS) which includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision mitigation, blind spot warning, and rear cross traffic alert, among others. This is along with other safety and convenience features such as a 360-degree multi-around monitor, six airbags, and Active Yaw Control (AYC).

The all-new Mitsubishi Destinator will be made available first in the Indonesian market. As for its Philippine availability, we won’t be surprised to see this come sooner than later, especially considering that its concept version was unveiled locally.
