Toyota celebrates 35 years in the Philippines
Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has kicked-off the celebrations for its 35th anniversary in the country. The Japanese automaker is holding several activities focused on its push for electrification and its drive for local motorsports.
“We dedicate this celebration to the generations of Filipino Toyota customers who have embraced the Toyota brand and became Toyota’s brand ambassadors,” said TMP President Atsuhiro Okamoto. “To thank our customers for this milestone and to give them a glimpse of our exciting future together, we are treating them to exciting and unforgettable activities this month to kickstart our 35th year.”
All-New Toyota Yaris Cross and “Go Electrified with Toyota”
First in its list of activities, TMP has launched its most affordable, and the newest addition to its hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) lineup, the all-new Yaris Cross. Based on the same platform as its popular Raize, Avanza, and Veloz, the Yaris Cross is a new subcompact crossover that wants to make the electrified driving experience more accessible.
More details about the all-new Toyota Yaris Cross such as its standard equipment, specifications, and pricing, can be found here and here.
Along with the launch of the all-new Toyota Yaris Cross was the Go Electrified with Toyota fair held in Bonifacio Global City. Here, TMP made available 35 vehicles from its electrified lineup of Toyota and Lexus for the public to take a closer look, and some for test drive around the area.
They also quietly showed-off the updated version of the Toyota Corolla Altis GR Sport which gets a handful of upgrades to its tech features in order to keep it fresh in the market.
Morizo is Coming: 2-Day TGR Fest in Manila
Coming this August, TMP is also holding the two-day Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) Festival in the City of Manila.
Open to the public, the free admission TGR Fest is a gathering of motorsports enthusiasts and car afficionados celebrating the thrill and joy of driving Toyota cars. It will be held at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila on August 23 and 24. This festival is expected to serve as a grand meetup of TGR drivers and fans, aiming to form the biggest assembly of GR cars in one venue.
Not only that, Toyota Motor Corporation’s one and only Chairman Akio Toyoda, known as Morizo when participating in motorsports events, will be joining the activities with him doing some driving exhibitions in front of the Filipino audience—a rare spectacle usually held in some of the world’s most renowned race tracks.
Morizo will be joined by other Japanese champion racers from Toyota Gazoo Racing team—Norihiko Katsuta and Masahiro Sasaki, bringing with them the legendary race cars that have run the rally courses of global racing events—Toyota WRC Yaris and Corolla D1.
Driving alongside them in a series of drifting and gymkhana challenges are Filipino representatives Alex Perez, Luis Gono, Marlon Stockinger, and Ryan Agoncillo using TGR’s performance cars GR Supra, GR Yaris, and GR 86.
TMP says that all Toyota customers, fans, and spectators are welcome to join in the fun and expect more attractions and surprises, including getting the chance to ride with the guest professional racers, winning official TGR merchandise, and witnessing the national finals of TMP’s biggest national sim racing championship, the Toyota Gazoo Racing Gran Turismo Cup Philippines (TGR GT Cup PH).
Performers like Ely Buendia, Ben&Ben, Parokya ni Edgar, and Kamikazee will also be performing at the TGR Festival.
35th Anniversary Blowout
Now we don’t usually post about promotions but for this one, why not?
For the whole month of August, all of Toyota’s 72 dealerships nationwide will be offering special anniversary deals on some of their most popular models such as the Hilux, Fortuner, Vios, Innova, and more. Those who will avail of these select models this month will get to enjoy benefits such as discounts, and free value chain offers.
Toyota Motor Philippines was founded on August 3, 1988. The company celebrated its 2-million car sales milestone in March last year and just before the start of this year, they marked the achievement of the 1-millionth car produced in its local manufacturing plant in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.
