GIIAS 2023: Mitsubishi unveils new Xforce crossover in Indonesia

2 min read

After a lengthy teaser campaign and initially revealing its exterior design last week, Mitsubishi Motors Indonesia has finally unveiled the all-new Xforce, the Japanese automaker’s newest crossover model, at the 30th Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) in Jakarta.

While ensuring the all-new Xforce meets the requirements for driving performance, ease of handling, a comfortable interior, wide-ranging user-friendliness, and everything else demanded of a compact SUV, we have put our heart and soul into the development to bring excitement to the everyday driving of our customers,” said Mitsubishi Motors President and Chief Executive Officer Takao Kato. “This compact SUV was developed to answer the needs of drivers in the ASEAN region and has gone through repeated tuning in the region’s road environment. We hope the all-new Xforce will become a best-suited buddy for any adventure that drivers wish to embark on, giving them an extra force to go one step further and experience something new.”

Based on the Mitsubishi XFC Concept which was first revealed in October last year, the all-new Mitsubishi Xforce is designed specifically for the ASEAN market region, and is based on the design concept of Silky & Solid. It wears a new and evolved version of the brand’s signature Dynamic Shield front fascia. The overall look is sleek and muscular, following the trend for most crossovers these days. The LED headlights and taillights follow a similar T-shape which will help make it instantly recognizable as a Mitsubishi product.

As for its interior which was first shown today, the Xforce follows the Horizontal Axis concept. It is visibly a more upmarket and tech-filled interio compared to anything that Mitsubishi has done before. A special mélange fabric is used for the padding of the dashboard and a large monolithic display panel houses the 12.3-inch Smartphone-link Display Audio system (SDA) and a 8-inch digital driver display. It also gets a Dynamic Sound Yamaha Premium sound system, and Mitsubishi also says that it gets the most spacious interior in its class.

Under the hood of the all-new Mitsubishi Xforce is a 1.5-liter 4A91 Inline 4-cylinder naturally aspirated gasoline engine that produces 104 horsepower and 141 Nm of torque, paired to a continuously variable transmission (CVT). Sounds familiar? That’s actually the same engine that powers the Mitsubishi Xpander and Xpander Cross.

The Mitsubishi Xforce  is set to compete with the likes of the Toyota Yaris Cross and Nissan Kicks. It will be manufactured at the Mitsubishi Motors Krama Yudha Indonesia plant in Bekasi, West Java, Indonesia and will first go on sale there, followed by markets like the Philippines, as also confirmed today by Mitsubishi Motors Philippines. When exactly will it arrive? We don’t know yet.
