All-new Mitsubishi Triton launches in PH January 26, 2024 with Php 1.134M starting price

We won’t have to wait too long for the local launch of the all-new Mitsubishi Triton as Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) seems as excited as we are. Now on its sixth generation, the Mitsubishi Triton, which was formerly known locally as the Strada, will officially be coming to the Philippines in January next year.

MMPC previewed today through a virtual livestream, the all-new Triton. This gave us the chance to see what to expect once it’s officially here.

For 2024, the all-new Mitsubishi Triton will have seven (7) variants across four (4) trim levels. The lineup starts with the GL 2WD M/T and GL 4WD M/T, followed by GLX 2WD M/T and GLX 4WD M/T, GLX 2WD A/T, GLS 2WD A/T, and Athlete 4WD A/T.

In terms of design, the all-new Mitsubishi Triton does not stray that far from the XRT Concept. Like the concept vehicle, the Triton gets a more athletic, muscular, rugged, and tough appearance overall with its boxier shape and use of more straight lines, following the “Beast Mode” design concept. In front it gets an evolved version of Mitsubishi’s signature Dynamic Shield front grille, flanked by split headlights.

And inside, where the previous generation definitely didn’t age well, the all-new Triton finally gets a more modern and premium interior. Other design details and features include a new three-spoke steering wheel, floating-style touchscreen infotainment system, 7-inch driver’s information display, and toggle switch buttons.

Full specifications are not yet available but MMPC has released an initial specification and equipment list and they are as follows:

  • Ground Clearance: 228 mm
  • Payload Capacity: 985 kg (Athlete 4WD), 1,090 kg (GLX 4WD MT, GL 4WD MT), 1,115 kg (GLS 2WD AT, GLX 2WD AT), 1,095 kg (GLX 2WD MT, GL 2WD MT)

Powering the all-new Mitsubishi Triton is a new 2.4-liter 4N16 Inline 4-cylinder MIVEC turbodiesel engine with Mitsubishi’s Clean Diesel technology. On the Athlete 4WD with a bi-turbo, it produces 204 horsepower and 470 Nm of torque, which are improvements of 20 hp and 40 Nm compared to the previous generation’s 4N15 engine. Interestingly, Mitsubishi has decided to still pair it to a 6-speed automatic transmission.

The rest of the lineup get the same engine but with a single turbocharger. This allows for 183 horsepower and 430 Nm of torque, similar to the previous generations 4N15 engine. Transmission options are a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission.

Also like before, the all-new Triton continues to offer Mitsubishi’s iconic off-road feature, Super Select 4WD-II. This system provides the vehicle with a central differential lock, 40% front and 60% rear traction distribution, and a 4H mode that can be used on and off road in any road condition. It also gets 7 selectable drive modes: Normal, Eco, Gravel, Snow, Mud, Sand, and Rock on the Athlete 4WD AT.

Active Yaw Control (AYC) which was first developed for the Lancer Evolution has also been added for the Athlete 4WD AT. This allows for smooth, nimble, and agile handling on tight corners or on slippery surfaces.

Thankfully we don’t have to wait too long to find out how much the all-new Mitsubishi Triton will cost as they have already been announced:

  • Triton GL 4WD M/T – Php 1,157,000
