Chery Tiggo 7 Pro achieves five star ANCAP safety rating

One of the most controversial news we released in the past week was about the MG GT’s recent zero star safety rating from the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP). Known as the MG 5 in other markets, many people were quite concerned about its safety, especially since it’s available in our market.

Safety won’t be a concern for current and future owners of the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro as it was just announced that it has received a five star safety rating, their second from the car safety program after the Omoda 5 which also got a perfect score from the Euro NCAP.

Giving the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro its perfect safety rating are its scores across the four key areas of ANCAP safety assessment: 88% for Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), 87% for Child Occupant Protection (COP), 72% for Vulnerable Road User Protection (VRUP), and 86% for Safety Assist (SA)

The standard six airbags, with the addition of a center airbag, equipped on the vehicle allowed for maximum head protection for the front seat occupants in the side impact test. Physical crash protection offered 88% protection for adult, and 87% for child occupants was good. It was however identified that protection could be improved through an enhanced restraint design, with weak scores recorded for the chest of the driver in the frontal offset and oblique pole tests.

It is also good to note that the Australian market version of the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro is fully-equipped with advanced driver-assist systems (ADAS) which are not yet available in the Philippine market version. Testing in this area also showed good results.

In addition, it was also tested if an occupant could safely exit the vehicle if flooded. It was seen that the doors of the vehicle would remain functional for the minimum time period required, and with it also being the first to provide a safety escape hammer to allow faster exiting via the windows in an emergency.

This is certainly good news for Chery Tiggo 7 Pro owners. While the Philippine-spec version of the compact SUV differs in terms of equipped safety equipment, hopefully we do get the missing stuff soon to have the same amount of safety locally.
