Nissan Ariya EV gets a performance-oriented NISMO version, revealed at 2024 Tokyo Auto Salon

Who says electric vehicles can’t be fun? Hyundai last year revealed the high-performance N version of its IONIQ 5 EV crossover. Now, Nissan follows suit with the Ariya NISMO, revealed at the 2024 Tokyo Auto Salon in its home market of Japan.

Teased a few days ago, the Ariya NISMO is the Japanese automaker’s high-performance division’s new flagship EV model, based on the Ariya e-4ORCE. It is expected to be made available in the Japanese market by spring of this year.

Two versions of the Nissan Ariya NISMO will be made available in Japan, packing different electric powertrains. First is the Ariya B6 e-4ORCE which comes with a 66 kWh battery, pushing out 367 horsepower and 560 Nm of torque. The second is the Ariya B9 e-4ORCE which comes with a larger 91 kWH battery, making 435 horsepower and 600 Nm of torque

An exclusive NISMO driving mode is also present, maximizing the powertrain’s response, together with an optional sound generator that produces sounds reminiscent of a Formula E race car.

Of course, it gets the NISMO treatment both inside and out. For the exterior, new bumpers give it better aerodynamics by reducing drag and increasing downforce at higher speeds. The new 20-inch alloy wheels matched with dedicated tires and NISMO tuning to the chassis improves stability and turn-in ability, as well as better line-tracing and enhanced cornering ability at high speeds. Meanwhile, its interior has specially designed NISMO seats and trim.

There is no news whether Nissan will be offering the Ariya NISMO outside of Japan. For our market, the Ariya itself is not yet available though we have the right to believe that it is in the pipeline for Nissan Philippines. Hopefully, the NISMO too.
