Toyota Motor PH reminds customers about recalls for Avanza and Veloz, Raize, and Yaris Cross

Earlier this year, Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) announced a set of recalls for some of its Daihatsu-based products—the Avanza and Veloz twins, Raize, and Yaris Cross.

While it wasn’t clear at the time (and still unclear right now) of these recalls were related to various safety issues that were hounding Daihatsu at the time, the Japanese automaker is prioritizing the safety of its customers.

With that, the company has once again reminded customers who still haven’t brought-in their vehicles for the said recalls to visit their nearest or preferred authorized service centers to have the affected parts repaired or replaced, free of charge.

As a refresher, the recalls are for the following issues:

RH Front Door Side Impact Beam

The first recall is for the right-hand (RH) front door side impact beams with a total of 2,756 units. This is caused by improper welding of the side impact beam, creating the possibility that the strength of the welding could be insufficient.

According to TMP, If the vehicle is operated continuously in this condition, the welded portion of the side impact beam could break during a side impact collision and may not perform as designed which could cause excessive injury to the vehicle occupant.

To fix the issue, a reinforcement bracket would be installed while additional welding will be done to defective weld points on the side impact beams.

The following models and corresponding number of units are affected:

  • Avanza – 1,285 units (produced from November 3, 2022 to November 24, 2022)
  • Veloz – 1,475 units (produced from November 3, 2022 to November 24, 2022)

Front Shock Absorber Nut

The second recall is larger, affecting 40,308 units. This one involves the affected vehicles’ front shock absorber nut

According to TMP, due to incorrect tightening instructions for the front shock absorber nuts, these nuts may not be adequately tightened. If the vehicle is operated continuously in this condition, the nuts may become loose and cause abnormal noise, or may come off posing a risk to vehicle stability.

The following models and corresponding number of units are affected:

  • Avanza/Veloz – 36,930 units (produced from January 7, 2022 to September 4, 2022)
  • Yaris Cross – 3,378 units (produced from May 29, 2023 to September 4, 2023)

Front Disc Brake Cylinder Slide Pin Boot

The third and final recall is for the replacement of the affected vehicles’ front disc brake cylinder slide pin boot and involves 10,975 units.

TMP says that this is due to an assembly fault at the brake caliper assembly line. The assembly tools are said to have interfered with the slide pin boots during assembly, causing damage to the boots. If water enters the slide pin boots and causes rust, it may lead to advanced wearing of the brake pads.

The following models and corresponding number of units are affected:

  • Raize – 4,345 units (produced from September 12, 2022 to December 7, 2022)
  • Avanza – 3,119 units (produced from September 12, 2022 to December 11, 2022)
  • Yaris Cross – 3,511 units (produced from September 12, 2022 to December 13, 2022)

These are all precautionary measures so in the best interest of your safety, be sure to take your Toyota vehicle, if it’s among those affected, to your nearest or preferred authorized Toyota service center to have the needed work done, again for free.
