Toyota Motor PH issues recall for Avanza, Veloz, and Raize

1 min read

Despite Philippine-spec units of certain Daihatsu-based Toyota models thankfully being spared from recent controversies surrounding production related safety issues, some are however being recalled due to an unrelated possible issue with the vehicle’s braking system.

Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has issued a recall for select units of the Avanza and Veloz subcompact MPV siblings, and the Raize subcompact crossover.

The issue stems from an assembly fault at the brake caliper assembly line where the assembly tools interfered with the slide pin boots. This in turn may cause damage to the pin boot. If in case water enters the slide pin boots, rust may appear, leading to premature wear of the brake pads.

A total of 10,975 units of the three models sold in the Philippines are affected. 3,199 units of which are of the Avanza built from September 12, 2022 to December 11, 2022; 3,511 units of the Veloz which were built from September 12, 2022 to December 13, 2022; and 4,345 units of the Raize which were built from September 12, 2022 to January 13, 2023.

There is no need to worry about the cost of the replacement or repair works as TMP will be doing everything free of charge. Affected vehicle owners have also already been informed.
