More Doors, More Space: Five-door Suzuki Jimny launched in PH with Php 1.558M starting price
The current generation Suzuki Jimny has been extremely popular ever since it was launched locally in 2018. So popular that purchasing one is not exactly the most straightforward with long waiting lines and even several dealerships and resellers adding ridiculous mark-ups. One thing some buyers were looking for though is more space.
Well Suzuki delivered and revealed last year a long wheelbase five-door version of the popular mini off-roader SUV, and it’s finally here in the country, launched today by Suzuki Philippines, Inc. (SPH).
Two trim levels are available for five-door Suzuki Jimny like its smaller version. The lineup starts with the 1.5 GL M/T, followed by the 1.5 GLX A/T. A two-tone paint job is an option for the latter.
In terms of aesthetics, the 5-door Suzuki Jimny is largely identical to the 3-door version. Obviously the biggest difference is its length which has been increased to 3,985 mm, and allows for the addition of its rear doors as well as more 2nd row passenger space. Its five-slot front grille also gets chrome inserts. Other design cues and features remain the same such as the round headlights, alloy wheels, and low-positioned halogen taillights.
Inside, it’s also largely identical to the three-door Jimny with only the addition of the door panels for the rear, as well as switches in the center console for the rear windows.
Standard equipment on the GL variant are multi-reflector halogen headlights, 15-inch alloy wheels, black plastic side mirror caps, fabric seats, and a new 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system which now gets Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The GLX variant adds automatic LED projector headlights, gloss black door handles, a larger 9-inch touchscreen, and automatic climate control.
Just like the smaller Suzuki Jimny, the five-door version is powered by a 1.5-liter K15B inline-4 cylinder naturally-aspirated gasoline engine. It does produce a little bit more here with 105 horsepower and 134 Nm of torque, mated to a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission. Of course, being an off-roader SUV, power is sent to all four wheels through Suzuki’s AllGrip Pro 4WD system.
As for safety, added here are side airbags and side curtain airbags on the GLX. Other standard safety features remain the same such as the dual front airbags, anti-lock braking system, electronic stability program, hill hold control, and hill descent control, among others.
Pricing for the 5-door Suzuki Jimny starts at Php 1,558,000 for the 1.5 GL M/T variant, goes up to Php 1,698,000 for the 1.5 GLX A/T, and tops-out at Php 1,708,000. Yes, that’s between Php 300,000 to Php 378,000 more than its smaller sibling, bringing the Jimny’s prices up to as much as larger and more well-equipped crossovers and entry-level pickup-based SUVs.
Would you get the five-door Suzuki Jimny over the original three-door version?
