LAUNCHED: The all-new Mitsubishi Triton has arrived in PH with Php 1.134M starting price

5 min read

After a couple of months of teasers and public previews, and even an online reveal of what to expect, Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) has finally launched the very much-awaited all-new Triton, formerly known as the Strada.

Revealed to the world in July last year, and previewed for the Philippine market in October, the Mitsubishi Triton is completely new from the ground up, riding on a new platform with a new chassis, powered by a new engine, featuring new technology, and having a complete redesign inside and out. Also, the use of the Triton name instead of Strada is for globalization.

All-new Design

In terms of design, the all-new Mitsubishi Triton does not stray that far from the XRT Concept. Like the concept vehicle, the Triton gets a more athletic, muscular, rugged, and tough appearance overall with its boxier shape and use of more straight lines, following the “Beast Mode” design concept. In front it gets an evolved version of Mitsubishi’s signature Dynamic Shield front grille, flanked by split headlights.

And inside, where the previous generation definitely didn’t age well, the all-new Triton and Strada finally gets a more modern and premium interior. Other design details and features include a new three-spoke steering wheel, and floating-style infotainment system, among others.

The all-new Mitsubishi Triton is larger than before with an increased tread of 50mm and 130mm longer wheelbase which should improve various performance aspects of the vehicle, as well as increased interior space. For dimensions, the double cab version which we get here measures between 5,265mm and 5,320mm long, 1,775mm to 1,930mm wide, and 1,774mm to 1,815mm tall. Ground clearance also varies from 203mm to 222mm.

Variants and Colors

The 2024 Mitsubishi Triton is available in seven different variants, spread across four grades–GL, GLX, GLS, and top-spec Athlete. All but the GLS are available in either rear- or four-wheel drive, while the Athlete is exclusively available in four-wheel drive.

The Mitsubishi Triton GLX 2WD M/T has a slightly different front design.

Available exterior color options are White Diamond, Graphite Gray, Jet Black, Red Solid, and White Solid. Newly added are Blade Silver and Yamabuki Orange.

Standard Equipment

We have a lot to discuss regarding standard equipment on each variant so be prepared for a lengthy read below:

All variants except the base GL get this 18-inch alloy wheel design.

Standard exterior equipment starting from the entry-level GL variants are multi-reflector halogen headlights, daytime running lights, halogen taillights, LED tailgate brake light, 16-inch steel wheels, and a bedliner. Moving up to the GLX variants adds a silver-painted rear bumper, side steps, front fog lights, LED side mirror turn indicators, power-folding side mirrors with heating function, 18-inch alloy wheels, and a tailgate lock.

The Athlete 4WD gets blacked-out wheels.
A bedliner is standard on all variants.

Stepping-up to the GLS gives you automatic LED headlights, LED front fog lights, rain-sensing wipers, and a sports bar. Finally, going for the top-spec Athlete adds a metallic black painted rear bumper, rear fog lights, blacked-out 18-inch alloy wheels, and a metallic black rear styling bar.

As for standard interior equipment, starting from the entry-level GL variants these are fabric seats, 4-way manual adjust front seats, 3.5-inch driver’s instrument display, and an integrated audio system with 2-speakers. Moving up to the GLX variants adds high-grade fabric seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel, steering wheel mounted audio and cruise controls, 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 6-speaker audio system, 6-way manual adjust driver’s seat, 7-inch digital instrument cluster display, and single zone automatic climate control.

The GLX gets a smaller 8-inch touchscreen.

Another step up to the GLS gives you a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system also with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone automatic climate control, and built-in GPS navigation. Finally, going for the top-spec Athlete adds orange synthetic leather seats with black quilted suede inserts, 10-way power adjust driver’s seat, and rear air circulating vents.

New Powertrain and More Safety

Powering the Mitsubishi Triton is a new 2.4-liter 4N16 Inline 4-cylinder turbodiesel engine. While new, it produces a similar 183 horsepower and the same 430 Nm of torque compared to the previous generation’s 4N15 engine. It is then mated to a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission, depending on the variant. 4WD variants get Mitsubishi’s Easy Select 4WD.

Meanwhile on the Athlete 4WD, the same powertrain gets the addition of a Two-Stage Turbo which allows it to produce a higher 204 horsepower and 470 Nm of torque, exclusively mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The Athlete also gets seven different drive modes—Normal, Eco, Gravel, Snow, Mud, Sand, and Rock; as well as Mitsubishi’s iconic Super Select 4WD-II.

All variants also get hydraulic power-assisted steering while the Athlete 4WD benefits from an electric power-assisted steering system.

In terms of safety, standard on all variants are dual front airbags, driver’s knee airbag, active stability and traction control (ASTC), hill start assist, trailer stability assist, and ISOFIX tether points. The GLS variants add a 360-degree view camera. The Athlete 4WD adds side airbags and side curtain airbags, and Active Yaw Control (AYC) which was first developed for the Lancer Evolution and allows for smooth, nimble, and agile handling on tight corners or on slippery surfaces.

GLS and Athlete variants get a 360-degree view camera.

GLS and Athlete 4WD get a suite of advanced driver-assist systems composed of Forward Collision Mitigation (FCM) with Pedestrian Detection, Blindspot Warning System (BSW) with Lane Change Assist (LCA), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), and Auto High Beam. Exclusive to the latter are Emergency Assist for Pedal Misapplication (EAPM) and Lane Departure Warning (LDW).

Pricing

Pricing was already revealed a few months ago, starting at Php 1,134,000 for the entry-level GL 2WD M/T, and going all the way up to Php 1,909,000 for the top-spec Athlete 4WD A/T. As a refresher, the full list is as follows:

  • 2.4 GL 2WD M/T – Php 1,134,000
  • 2.4 GL 4WD M/T – Php 1,157,000
  • 2.4 GLX 2WD M/T – Php 1,311,000
  • 2.4 GLX 2WD A/T – Php 1,383,000
  • 2.4 GLX 4WD M/T – Php 1,561,000
  • 2.4 GLS 2WD A/T – Php 1,582,000
  • 2.4 Athlete 4WD A/T – Php 1,909,000

It’s also good to note that the Athlete’s price is slightly reduced from the initial Php 1.915-million to just Php 1.909-million. Anyway, buyers of the all-new Mitsubishi Triton will be able to take advantage of a 3-year or 100,000 kilometer vehicle warranty, whichever comes first.

What do you think of the all-new Mitsubishi Triton? Others say this is a threat to other popular rivals such as the Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger. We don’t know for now but we’re definitely excited to give this new pickup truck a proper test.
