RUMOR: Century could go above Lexus as Toyota’s top luxury brand
When you think of the world’s most prominent figures, it’s only fitting to imagine them being ferried to their destinations in the world’s most opulent automotive brands. That includes the likes of Rolls Royce, Maybach, Bentley, and the like.
But, what if we told you that VIPs in the Land of the Rising Sun are transported in something else outside of those prestigious names? And that very something may possibly be making a global debut very soon?
Say hello to Century – set to showcase the pinnacle of what Toyota can do, aiming for heights even beyond its famed Lexus brand. To be completely transparent, the nameplate Century has been around since the late 60’s. Its been the company’s pride and joy, and also its combatant in the ultra high-end automotive space.
For those who know, the Century has always emphasized upon understated luxury. Walk the streets of Tokyo and you may find a few of these models carrying celebrities, business tycoons, politicians, and the like. Sadly, it’s only ever been available in Japan.
Now, it seems that there are plenty of rumors speculating a global debut for Century as a brand. The rumors, also referred to in a report by Forbes, suggest that much like Lexus, it’s set to create a distinction from Toyota by marketing itself differently and having its own lineup of luxurious models. You can also use Genesis versus Hyundai as an example.
The source claims that a company executive informed them of Century’s upcoming global release. There are no exact specifics yet regarding timelines and nitty gritty details, but this scoop is more than enough to get a lot of fans excited.
In over 40 years of existence, Toyota’s Century models had all been long, executive sedans. This streak was recently broken when the Century SUV was unveiled last year, where it was pegged as a rival to the magnificent Bentley Bentayga and Rolls Royce Cullinan.
It’s special, but Akio Toyoda may have a one-of-one GRMN edition Century SUV, and there are other rare versions like the convertible seen in the photo above.
This announcement is sure to make waves among the car community. Will we really get to see these land yachts on our roads? We’ll just have to wait to find out.
