The latest in Philippine motoring.

This is BAIC’s initial lineup of models for PH market

It’s no longer a secret that Chinese automaker BAIC will be making its comeback in the Philippine market, under the distributorship of United Asia Automotive Group, Inc. (UAAGI), at the upcoming Manila International Auto Show (MIAS) which is happening next month.

UAAGI is no stranger to the success of Chinese automakers in the local market. Prime examples are Foton and Chery which it both handles locally. The former is one of the more successful LCV brands in the country, and the latter gained success after the brand was relaunched prior to the global pandemic. The company is once again trying their luck, this time with BAIC, and another brand–Lynk & Co. you can read about that here.

To reach that success, they need to have a good lineup. With that, their re-entry will be marked by the introduction of three body-on frame SUVs–the B40, B60, and B80; as well as two crossovers–the X55 and X7. Here’s what we can expect from each model:

B40 Ragnar

The BAIC B40 will be the brand’s entry-level model for its body-on frame SUV lineup. It features a boxy and rugged exterior with soft lines and curves, akin to vehicles from American automaker Jeep. Something to take note of however, and very interestingly, a second generation version of the B40 is already being sold in China since August last year. Regardless, this is what we’re getting.

We were not given much information as to what we can expect in terms of features but we do know that just like its American inspiration, it will come with removable roof panels for those who want an open top experience. It will also be equipped with a Borg-Warner 4WD System.

Powering the BAIC B40 Ragnar will be a 2.0-liter Aucan turbodiesel engine with 380 Nm of torque and mated to an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission. Its horsepower figure was not disclosed.

B60 Beaumont

The second body-on-frame model in the lineup is the B60 Beaumont. By the looks and size of it, it’s designed to be an alternative to models such as the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado and the yet to be launched locally GWM Tank 500. It even looks the part with its tailgate-mounted spare tire.

Among the features that the B60 Beaumont will have are a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, 12.8-inch infotainment screen, wireless phone charger, 540-degree Panoramic Camera, a 13-speaker Infinity premium audio system, and active noise cancellation

Under the hood you’ll find a 2.0-liter diesel hybrid engine. According to our research, the diesel engine is paired to a 48-volt battery, making it a mild-hybrid. It will also come with a full suite of advanced driver-assist systems (ADAS) for a safer and more comfortable driving experience.

B80 Wagon

Safe to dub as the flagship model of BAIC Philippines is the B80 Wagon which is undoubtedly inspired by the iconic Mercedes-Benz G-Class with its classic retro-looking boxy shape both on the outside and the inside.

BAIC Philippines didn’t go deep into what features we’ll be getting but they did mention that it will come with Nappa leather seats, and will be powered by a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 gasoline engine that produces 280 horsepower and 420 Nm of torque, mated to an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission.

X55 Verve and X7 Grandeza

Let’s move on to BAIC’s crossover lineup starting with the X55 Verve which will also be the brand’s most affordable model in its lineup (see pricing below). This one will come equipped with a full suite of advanced driver-assist systems (ADAS), automatic parking assist and hands-free power tailgate functions.

BAIC X55 Verve

Next is the X7 Grandeza. Unfortunately, BAIC Philippines also did not go deep into the details with this crossover but did mention that it will have a spacious cabin that features heated and ventilated ottoman seats with massage function, as well as a full suite of ADAS as well.

BAIC X7 Grandeza

Both the BAIC X55 Verve and X7 Grandeza will be powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged direct injection gasoline engine making 188 horsepower and 305 Nm of torque, mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Warranty and Indicative Prices

BAIC Philippines is surely excited to get the attention of new car buyers as they’ve already announced the warranties for these new models. All customers will be able to take advantage of a 5-year or 150,000 kilometer general vehicle warranty, whichever comes first.

As for pricing, the final figures are not yet available as of now. BAIC Philippines did however announce indicative pricing which are as follows:

  • B40 Ragnar – Php 2,400,000
  • B60 Beaumont – Php 3,200,000
  • B80 Wagon – Php 4,500,000
  • X55 Verve – Php 1,400,000
  • X7 Grandeza – Php 1,700,000

Again, BAIC Philippines will be making its public debut at the 2024 Manila International Auto Show which is happening this coming April 4 to 7, 2024 at the World Trade Center Metro Manila in Pasay City.
