Mazda PH updates CX-5 lineup for 2024

3 min read

Mazda Philippines, under the distributorship of Bermaz Auto Philippines, Inc. (BAP) is streamlining the lineup of its CX-5 compact crossover with updates done to the entry and mid-grade variants.

The last update done to the local Mazda CX-5 lineup was in June 2022, and other than the discontinuation of the then entry-level 2.0 FWD Pro variant, other updates were limited to the top-spec variant. That changes now.

For starters, both the 2.0 Sport and 2.5 AWD Sport variants now wear the same exterior appearance as the top-spec 2.5 AWD Turbo variant with their 3D-design front grille, matched with quad L-shaped LED daytime running lights and taillights, as well as a cleaner-looking front bumper. The revised headlights also now feature an Adaptive Front-lighting System (AFS).

New alloy wheel designs also make their way here which are 17-inches in size with a metallic finish for the 2.0 Sport, and 19-inches in size with a diamond-cut design for the 2.5 AWD Sport. In addition, like in the 2.5 AWD Turbo, both Sport variants get black plastic body cladding as opposed to the body-colored cladding on the AWD Turbo.

Color choices remain identical as before with Soul Red Crystal, Machine Gray, Polymetal Gray, Deep Crystal Blue, and Jet Black available across all variants. Snowflake White Pearl and newly available Platinum Quartz Pearl are exclusive to the 2.5 AWD Sport, while Rhodium White and Zircon Sand remain exclusive to the 2.5 AWD Turbo.

Changes aren’t limited to the CX-5’s exterior as there are a couple inside as well. Both Sport variants now get the same seats from the 2.5 AWD Turbo, but wrapped in a different black leather material with orange contrast stitching. A wireless phone charger and wireless Apple CarPlay connectivity have also been added, while the 7-inch LCD display has been updated with new graphics.

Other standard features on all variants are an Active Driving Display (heads-up display), 10-speaker Bose audio system, power adjustable front seats, and a power tailgate. A power sunroof is equipped on the AWD variants.

As for what’s under the hood, powertrain options and their respective tuning remain the same. As before, the FWD Sport gets a 2.0-liter Skyactiv-G engine that produces 156 horsepower and 200 Nm of torque. On the other hand, the mid-grade AWD Sport still gets the larger 2.5-liter Skyactiv-G engine that produces 190 horsepower and 252 Nm of torque. The AWD Turbo then gets a 2.5-liter Skyactiv-G turbocharged engine making 253 horsepower and 434 Nm of torque. All three powertrains are mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission.

For safety, all variants come standard with blindspot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and a 360-degree around-view monitor, while both AWD variants get the complete suite of Mazda’s i-Activsense driver-assist tech. This is composed of Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keep Assist, Smart Brake Support, front and rear Smart City Brake Support, and Driver Attention Alert.

Pricing for the 2024 Mazda CX-5 now starts at Php 1,950,000 for the 2.0 FWD Sport, and Php 2,050,000 for the 2.5 AWD Sport, both increases of Php 60,000 compared to before. Meanwhile, the top-spec 2.5 AWD Turbo’s price remains the same at Php 2,430,000.
