The all-new 2022 Ford Ranger has been revealed

After a couple of teasers, Ford has finally pulled the wraps of what could be its most awaited new model for this year, the all-new generation of the Ranger. It is fully redesigned for the new generation with more muscular and bolder styling, inspired by its larger F-150 sibling which is also set to launch locally within the week.

The blue oval has also revealed the all-new Ranger’s initial variant lineup made up of the XLT, Sport, and Wildtrak, which they say reflects customer input both inside and out.

As mentioned, the all-new Ranger takes inspiration from the larger F-150 and even the smaller North American market Maverick. It gets an imposing and large front grille flanked by its new signature C-clamp headlights. The sides incorporate bolder wheel-arches that give the new Ranger a sure-footed stance. For the first time, the Ford Ranger offers matrix LED headlights.

On the technical side of things, beneath the new bodywork is an upgraded chassis riding on a wheelbase 50mm longer and a track 50mm wider than the prior Ranger. A hydro-formed front-end structure creates more space in the engine bay for a new V6 engine (more on the engines below) and helps future-proof the Ranger for other propulsion technologies. It also opens up the front of the pickup to allow more airflow to the radiator, which helps keep running temperatures low when towing or carrying heavy loads.

Inside, the all-new Ranger features a more modern and tech-laden cabin. Premium soft-touch materials adorn the interior while front and center is a new portrait-oriented SYNC4 infotainment system available with 10.1- or 12-inch touchscreen options. The infotainment system should support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as with the current model. It also gets a fully-digital instrument cluster.

Under the hood, the all-new Ford Ranger is set to be available with three different engine options. First is an improved version of the 2.0L EcoBlue turbodiesel (single or bi-turbo), next is a new 3.0L twin-turbo diesel V6, and less likely to reach our market, a 2.3L EcoBoost petrol engine. This also means that the tried-and-tested 2.2L Duratorq turbo diesel will no longer be available for the Ranger family. Exact power and torque figures have not yet been announced.

In addition, engineers moved the front wheels forward by 50 mm for a better approach angle and outboard for better off-road articulation, both of which improve the off-roading experience. They also shifted the rear suspension dampers outboard of the frame rails to give drivers and passengers a better ride both on- and off-road.

Among other new features on the 2022 Ford Ranger are a 360-degree Around-view Monitor, and the FordPass app. This app allows owners to do functions such as remote start, vehicle status check and remote lock and unlock functions via smartphone.

Excited? the all-new 2022 Ford Ranger is set to start production in early 2022 in the blue oval’s manufacturing plants in Thailand and South Africa. Expect the truck to make its way into the Philippine market sometime next year.
