The Changan CS35 Plus is fully-loaded with safety technologies

The Changan CS35 Plus received a heavy refresh for the local market back in March this year. So much was changed over the pre-refresh version that the new one could easily pass as a completely new generation.

It surely is competitive when it comes to the looks and performance departments. One place it stands-out from its rivals though is when it comes to safety technology, something that Changan Motor Philippines, Inc. (CMPI) is proud of.

The 2022 Changan CS35 Plus is equipped with SafeTech. This is Changan’s version of Toyota’s Safety Sense or Honda’s SENSING suite of driver-assistance safety tech. It is also good to note that this is available not just on the top-spec 1.4 Luxe variant, but also on the mid-level 1.4 Hype, not just adding more value for money on the lower variant, but also “Lasting Safety,” as Changan puts it.

So what exactly is included in Changan CS35 Plus variants equipped with SafeTech? First is Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop-and-Go which allows you to lock in your desired speed (30-150km/h). It also automatically slows down or adjusts speed once the built-in radar in the front grille under the bumper detects an approaching vehicle.

Next is Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) which will assist you in braking to avoid any probable accident. Once activated, the AEB works together with the Front Collision Warning (FCW) system which displays a visual warning on the digital instrument panel and sets off an alarm to alert you to hit the brakes when it senses danger of rear-end collision with the vehicle in front.

In addition, the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) detects skidding and automatically applies the brakes to individual wheels to counter loss of directional control and help maintain vehicle stability.

For rainy days, excellent visibility is likewise crucial. The CS35 Plus’ split LED headlights with daytime running lights (DRL) and “Whale Tail Design” LED taillights aren’t there just to make a strong style statement, they also prevent collision by providing better visibility under a heavy downpour.

Of course, very helpful is the Around View Camera & Monitor which is powered by four high-definition cameras that project clear front, side, and rear images onto the 10-inch touchscreen display, thus lessening the probability of bumping into nearby obstructions while parking or maneuvering in tight spaces. You can even choose which camera to activate at a given time. Complementing these features is an HD Driving Recorder, a built-in dash cam which automatically records all the sides captured by the AVM cameras before and after potential accidents occur. Videos are saved on a Micro SD card inside the module above the brake pedal, and can be quickly viewed on the infotainment screen.

Finally, the New CS35 Plus boasts an Ultra High Strength Body. This means it is more durable and decay- and crash-resistant compared to its earlier incarnations. Moreover, its ground clearance of 180mm is at par with its class, allowing you to safely navigate gutter-deep floods.

The Metro Manila Accident Reporting and Analysis System (MMARAS) reports that close-to half of their 26,000 documented road accidents in NCR in 2020 alone happened from June to October, traditionally the country’s wet season.

By the way, the 2022 Changan CS35 Plus lineup starts with the 1.4 DCT Lite variant which is priced at Php 999,000. This is followed by the mid-grade 1.4 DCT Hype at Php 1,149,000, and the 1.4 DCT Luxe at Php 1,169,000. The two latter variants are already equipped with SafeTech.

Safety is definitely one of the Changan CS35 Plus’ strengths over its similarly priced competition. Are these enough to make you choose it over the rest?
