The Denza Z can go from 0-100kph in less than 2 seconds

A halo car is one way for an automaker to showcase the best it’s able to offer whether it’s for luxury and comfort, technology, or outright powertrain performance. For Denza, the luxury arm of BYD, it’s with the new Denza Z.
Initially unveiled as a concept at the Auto China 2025 (Shanghai Auto Show), the Denza Z has made its full debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed as the Chinese luxury automaker’s new flagship electric sports car.

Built on the brand’s e3 (e-cube) Sports Car Platform, the Denza Z will come in Coupe, Spider, and Racing variants, powered by a tri-motor setup that produces a combined whopping 1,604 horsepower and 1,240Nm of torque, sent to all four wheels. 0-100kph acceleration time is estimated to be as quick as 1.96 seconds for the Racing variant, while 0-200kph acceleration time can be as quick as six seconds. Top speed is rated at as much as 350kph.

With a 76kWh LFP battery from BYD, the Coupe can drive up to 410km on a single charge, up to 400km on the Spider, and up to 380km for the Racing. Charging from 10-70% can be done in just five minutes with BYD’s flash charging technology.
Aesthetics-wise, the Denza Z was designed by the team of BYD Global Design Director Wolfgang Egger, and mixes both sporty and elegant design elements, dubbed as a “living sculpture of speed.” Aerodynamics are highly prioritized with an optimized body shape and other elements that make for added downforce and less drag.

Inside, its dashboard wears a minimalistic look, typical of Denza products, but with a little more. On top of an 8.88-inch instrument cluster and 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment screen, its steering wheel is inspired by race cars, featuring physical buttons for key functions such as drive modes. It also makes use of carbon fiber, suede fabric, and other genuine metal finishes, and a Devialet premium sound system is also equipped with up to 12 speakers, depending on the variant.

Denza is also developing the Z Special Edition, capable of over 2,000 horsepower and a 0-100kph acceleration time of less than 1.7 seconds, and featuring track-grade enhanced thermal management, with powertrain and battery cooling rates increased by 180% and 30% respectively. Denza says more technical information on this version will be released in the future, as it undergoes additional development assessment ahead of planned lap-record attempts at the iconic Nürburgring Nordschleife.

The Denza Z will be available for order in select markets later this year, with customer deliveries expected before the end of the year. With Denza Philippines currently building its presence, fresh from its debut earlier this year, do you think they should bring the Z here, or at least showcase it to potential local customers?
