The Hyundai Ioniq 3 is the newest entry-level member of its EV family

We’re at that point where electric vehicle adoption has been accelerated, so the status quo nowadays is to introduce more affordable offerings for more markets around the world. The newest member of Hyundai’s electric vehicle lineup is the Ioniq 3, a compact hatchback with a new approach to its design and utilization space.

The Ioniq 3 utilizes its Art of Steel design philosophy, with a new Aero Hatch approach that streamlines aerodynamic efficiency and optimization of interior space. In fact, it has a low drag coefficient of 0.263.

This design looks like a mishmash of its other vehicles, with a front end that resembles the Ioniq 5 N and the Kona. The split lighting signature separates the daytime running lights, with a black strip holding the main headlights. The four dots in the middle of the front and rear black strips are Morse code for the letter H, along with small design quirks around the car.

Wheel sizes range from 16 inches all the way to 19 inches, and the rear end of the body terminates in a fastback design with a surprisingly large ducktail spoiler and a dual split glass tailgate design, similar to the iconic Honda CR-X and CR-Z for visibility. Hyundai says it’s available in different trims, but the renders only show off in the N Line trim.

The interior design and upholstery are heavily inspired by 1970s Italian furniture, utilizing recycled and bio-based materials all around. The two-tiered dashboard features accent lighting, a small digital instrument cluster that’s in line with the driver’s line of sight, and either a 12.9-inch or 14.9-inch infotainment that runs the Pleos Connect system, based on Android Automotive OS.

The cabin also has several luxuries like the relaxation seats that are heated or ventilated, a Bose Premium sound system, a wireless charger, a flat floor layout with a large luggage capacity of 441L, and the Hyundai SmartSense suite of advanced driver assistance systems.

Finally, the powertrain reflects its positioning in the lineup. A single front-mounted electric motor produces either 135 horsepower (Standard range) or 147 horsepower (Long range) with 250Nm of torque.

Battery capacities are either 42.2kWh (Standard range) or 61kWh (Long range), with the former having a projected driving range of up to 344km, and the latter having up to 496km on a single charge. DC fast charging is supported too, capable of filling up 10 to 80% in around 30 minutes.

Hyundai says that the Ioniq 3 is designed in Europe and produced at Hyundai Motor Türkiye’s İzmit plant, so it’s currently unclear if this will be seen outside of that region. Would you buy this if Hyundai Motor Philippines were to offer this in our market as its entry-level EV offering?
