The Lexus LS goes all-hybrid from 2026 onwards with handling tweaks

Lexus’ momentum in updating new models keeps on going, with the recent mid-life cycle facelift of the NX debuting an all-new generation of the Toyota/Lexus Hybrid System and dropping the gasoline-powered variant. Now, it’s the turn of the Lexus LS to get these updates, with the biggest change being a full hybrid lineup.

While not a huge update or a facelift, the LS gets a few key changes to streamline it with the rest of Lexus’ lineup. First, the available powertrains have now been cut down to the 8GR-FXS, a 3.5-liter V6 engine mated to a hybrid system for efficiency and comfort, ditching the V35A-FTS gasoline engine.

There have been a handful of chassis tweaks, like a reinforced center tunnel for improved chassis rigidity, a new response-enhancing damping structure around the rear suspension brace and luggage compartment brace to reduce high-frequency vibrations, and improved handling stability and ride comfort. Finally, there’s retuned adaptive variable suspension and electronic power steering for a more natural and controllable steering feel, and to reduce body roll and sway for better handling.

This doesn’t get the new Arene OS seen in the ES and NX, but it now gets a panoramic glass roof that opens up, a new Kiriko (cut glass) pattern for the dashboard trim, and the rear L emblem on the trunk has been replaced by the L E X U S wordmark.

While we know that the current-generation LS is on its way out, thanks to it being discontinued around the world and the various LS Concepts shown off during the 2025 Japan Mobility Show, it’s still nice to see how Lexus is actively updating its flagship sedan in markets like Japan.
