The iconic Nissan Skyline lives on for another generation

When people think of the Nissan Skyline, most will have the iconic Skyline GT-R R32, R33, and R34 from the 90s, or even the legendary R35 GT-R, in mind. What many people don’t know is that the Skyline nameplate still exists as a four-door sports sedan in markets like Japan, faithful to older generations.
The current generation, known as the V37, is getting quite long in the tooth, having been on the market since 2014, and receiving various updates to keep it fresh throughout the past decade. It won’t be staying for long though as a new generation is on the horizon.
Described by Nissan as a “heartbeat model” and a “symbol of Japanese engineering and driving performance infused with raw emotion,” the next-generation Skyline was teased at the Japanese automaker’s Vision event which was held today at its global headquarters in Yokohama, Japan.

Based on the teaser photos, the Skyline sedan will wear a mix of modern and retro-inspired design elements. Most recognizable are the signature round taillights which have been present since the C110 generation from the 70s, along with the Skyline name in script which we can trace back to the C10 generation.

Also appearing to be inspired by the C10 Skyline is the front fascia which features retro-modern touches, along with a sleek and aggressive front snout that appears to be based on the Hyper Force concept from the Japan Mobility Show 2023. While the concept vehicle is rumored to become the R36 Nissan GT-R, the resemblance is definitely there.
As for its powertrain, no exact details were mentioned. It was however teased that Infiniti, Nissan’s luxury arm, will be releasing a performance-oriented V6 sedan. Considering that the V37 Skyline has an Infiniti version, the Q50, we won’t be surprised if this would be the new version of the Q50. This also hints at the Skyline still coming with a V6 engine under the hood, possibly a hybrid as well as such is already being developed.
And while chances are low for the next-generation Nissan Skyline to enter Philippine shores, its announcement is surely exciting, especially for car enthusiasts who have grown a fondness for Nissan’s performance vehicles, new and old.
